    Howmet Aerospace is seeking an EHS Co-op/Intern to join our EHS Team at our Rochester, NY location. This position will report directly to the site EHS Manager.

    This position is site-based and gives you a hands-on, practical experience in environmental, health and safety management. The EHS Co-op will work in coordination with the EHS Team (Manager & Specialist) to recognize, evaluate, and make recommendations for the control of potential workplace safety and industrial hygiene hazards, as well as environmental impacts and concerns. This individual will have the opportunity to become an instrumental part of the daily team activities and will be a key contributor to the continuous improvement efforts within the organization.

    Job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

    • Evaluate programs on workplace safety and health and participate in internal EHS program audits (review of confined space program and permits, LO/TO procedures, fall protection equipment inspections, etc.)

    • Support compliance with environmental programs including but not limited to: Air State Facility Permit, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure plan

    • Review and assist with development of Best Management Practices for compliance with the NPDES Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program

    • Develop training materials to promote a safety culture

    • Promote safety awareness by creating, issuing safety campaigns for all site personnel (slip, trip, fall prevention, seasonal safety, etc.)

    • Complete floor audits to identify and evaluate compliance with critical safety programs and company requirements

    Basic qualifications:

    • Currently enrolled as a student majoring in a program with a focus on environmental, health and safety, related scientific or engineering fields

    • Strong communication skills (written and verbal); able to communicate with team members at all levels of the organization

    • Foundational understanding of Federal and State regulations (OSHA, EPA, DEC, etc.)

    • Able to work effectively, professionally, and respectfully in a team-based environment

    • Ability to work independently when necessary

    • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

    • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. "Green Card Holder"), Political Asylee, or Refugee

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Previous EHS job related experience

    • Graduate student pursuing a degree in environmental, health and safety or related field
