    EHS Development Program

    THE CHALLENGE

    This role will be a development position for a career with GE Appliances (GEA) in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). The selected candidate will complete four six-month rotations that will help expand their EHS experience while learning to understand the needs of customers and stakeholders (e.g., Operations Team). This position will report to a GEA central EHS business team that will assist and support the selected candidate in development and progression of their skills, manufacturing knowledge, and in the EHS function. The goal of this position is to transition the selected candidate into a GEA EHS Specialist role at the end of the two-year term.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

    ENVIRONMENTAL (1ST ASSIGNMENT - 6 MONTHS):

    • This rotation will be completed at the GEA Appliance Park site in Louisville, Kentucky. Appliance Park is a 750-acre facility that includes manufacturing plants for dishwashers, plastic injection molding, washers/dryers, and refrigerators.

    HEALTH AND SAFETY - INCLUDES 10 - 20% SITE LEVEL ENVIRONMENTAL (2ND ASSIGNMENT - 6 MONTHS):

    • This rotation will be completed at the GEA Appliance Park site in Louisville, KY or in one of our satellite sites (Decatur, Alabama; Lafayette, Georgia; Selmer, Tennessee; or Camden, South Carolina).

    MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS (3RD ASSIGNMENT - 6 MONTHS):

    • This rotation will be completed at the GEA Appliance Park site in Louisville, KY or in one of our satellite sites (Decatur, Alabama; Lafayette, Georgia; Selmer, Tennessee; or Camden, South Carolina).

    TO BE DETERMINED EHS RELATED - SUSTAINABILITY, ENGINEERING, EHS MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS, ERGONOMICS, OTHER (4TH ASSIGNMENT - 6 MONTHS):

    • This rotation will be completed at the GEA Appliance Park site in Louisville, KY or in one of our satellite sites (Decatur, Alabama; Lafayette, Georgia; Selmer, Tennessee; or Camden, South Carolina).

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCY DEVELOPED:

    • Gain leadership skills. (e.g., communication, problem solving, teamwork, project management, data analysis)
    • Develop and implement new initiatives, systems and process improvements that minimize risk and drive overall EHS performance.
    • Learn how to use engineering controls to eliminate hazards that cause incidents.
    • Drive reduction in injuries and illnesses through clear problem definition assessment, analysis, corrective action, and control planning/ performance metrics.
    • Learn to utilize data analysis tools to develop and implement sound EHS management systems and operationalize EHS in business operations.
    • Promote EHS and ensure teams compliance with all safety and environmental rules, GE policies and procedures.
    • Build your network and gain respect.
    • Customer Service and Problem Solver: Investigate and resolve issues, questions, or concerns received from within the company.
    • Practice working across a matrix organizational structure.
    • Develop strong influencing and communications skills.
    • Establish knowledge of multiple supply chain functions and an understanding of customer needs.

    WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • BS or BA Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science or related field .
    • Legal authorization to work in the country/region where the business is hiring is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's degree in an EHS discipline.
    • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT HMT, EPA regulations.
    • Experience working with Union workforce.
    • Knowledge and application of the principals of LEAN manufacturing, and six sigma.
    • Advanced computer skills.
    • Audit experience or qualifications.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
    • Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 30 pounds.
    • Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats.
    • Requires frequent walking in a manufacturing plant environment.
    • Travel may be required: 10%.
    • Relocation to satellite site may be required.
