    Job Description

    The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager will support the plants in areas of EHS, Emergency Response and Regulatory Compliance. The individual will work with the management team to develop and foster an EHS culture. They will develop, train, and enforce policies and procedures that eliminate or reduce risk to promote a safe working environment. Individual will be responsible for conducting inspections of facilities and settings to ensure applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations are being met. They will lead EHS improvement by identifying areas of improvement and improving processes to sustain improvement through the EHS Frameworks.

    This role proactively demonstrates EHS technical and management system competencies that bring value to the organization by proactively recommending and assisting sites with pragmatic EHS solutions. Candidate can be located in San Jose, CA or Salt Lake City, UT. As this role will support both of these service centers. (As well as Stockton and Arvada).

    Key Characteristics

    • Provides support of EHS activities to location(s) and acts as a liaison between EHS other functional areas and business operation stakeholders.
    • Responds and provides direct EHS assistance to sites in emergencies.
    • Participates in MOC review, HAZOP, and FMEAs for processes and products as required.
    • Act as the technical EHS focal point for local Emergency Action Plans and Hazard Communication Programs.
    • Mentor and develop site safety champions.
    • Provide on-site EHS support and assistance to the San Jose and Salt Lake City service centers and associate depots
    • Responsible for all environmental reports such as TIER II, Annual Waste Reporting, and all required Local, State, and Federal regulations, etc
    • Maintain sufficient supplies of personal protective and first aid equipment
    • Assists in training employees in EHS guidelines, company policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to EHS
    • Making and maintaining necessary EHS records according to established guidelines
    • Assists in training employees in EHS guidelines, company policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to EHS
    • Oversee and provide technical support for the Gensuite (EHS management system)
    • Perform compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
    • Interact with diverse teams of production/maintenance and management employees. Build positive relationships with all team members.
    • Assist with the development and execution of EHS annual plans as well as framework validations.
    • Creates, writes and reviews JSA’s and RA. Educates employees on both the JSA and RA and procedures
    • Report and review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental
    • Plan, implement, communicate and lead a comprehensive plan during adverse weather conditions. Create real time monitoring and communication system to enhance decision making during events.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Conducts Safety Orientation
    • Create and conduct required and request Safety Training at assigned Service Centers
    • Led Veolia Safety Initiatives across San Jose and Salt Lake City service centers and associate depots
    • Interface with regulatory and public sector EHS agencies and authorities, acting as a liaison between plant management and government agencies on regulatory matters.
    • Administer site EHS targets and objectives to include ISO certifications.
    • Facilitate/Coordinate annual EHS audits to support compliance certification
    • Assures compliance with OSHA regulatory standards which include but are not limited to industrial hygiene, confined space entry, fall protection, machine guarding and contractor safety

    • Communicate effectively with employees, management and external stakeholders about EHS matters.
    • Participate in administrative staff meetings.

    Preferred:

    • Knowledge of California environmental regulation
    • Communicating EHS expectations effectively through leveraging technical and business proficiency with client stakeholders, sub-contractors and internal project team members
    • Building a trusting EHS culture where concerns can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on results and problem solving
    • Knowledge of EHS issues including regulations, air permitting, wastewater permitting and treatment, and hazardous waste
    • Detail Oriented
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
    • Strong analytical skills including advanced Root Cause determination skills

    Education & Experience
    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Industrial Hygiene or related field from an accredited college or university
    • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience with exposure to several EHS areas in a manufacturing environment

    Preferred:

    • Certification in related subjects (CHMM, CSP, CIH, QISP, etc)

    Working Conditions

    • Ability and willingness to perform physical duties such as lifting, climbing, working at elevated heights, and manual dexterity
    • Ability and willingness to work confined space entry
    • Ability and willingness to work in range of environments to include but not limited to industrial
    • Ability and willingness to travel 30-40%
