Job Description
ELK Analytics is looking for a Linux Systems Engineer to join our small team of subject matter experts. This position is remote at your residence in the Washington DC Metro area with occasional hands on requirements in one of our datacenters located in Ashburn Virginia. We are a small fast growing cybersecurity company utilizing a multi-cluster environment based on Elastic.co big data tools. Eventually this position will be expected to become an Elastic Certified Engineer.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SECURITY ENGINEER
• GENERAL ENGINEERING TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES
o On Call Periods to Respond to Platform Performance Issues
o Scripting to Automate Processes and Commands
o Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting of Linux Based Servers
o Occasional Remote Hands to Assist with Datacenter Deployments / Break-Fix
• SPECIFIC OWNERSHIP OF LOG INGESTION & INDEX MAPPINGS FOR BIG DATA BASED PLATFORM
o Creation of OVA & Hyper-V Images for Customer Premise Deployments
o Management of Data Enrichment for High Volume Streaming Data Pipelines
o Management of Index Field Mappings / Templates to a Common Schema
• RESPONSIBILITIES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS CHANGE
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SECURITY ENGINEER
• US Citizen
• Ability to pass a national criminal background check
• Ability to work as needed (days, nights, weekends)
• Ability to prioritize and manage projects
• Comfortable working in a startup fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills (internally & customer facing)
• At least 2 years' experience as a Linux system administrator
• Demonstrable experience as a database administrator (preferably in a NoSQL environment)
• Strong scripting skills (primarily Linux shell or python)
• Critical thinking skills and the ability to solve problems as they arise
