Summary
The EMS Engineer – Level III is a senior-level controls engineering professional and subject matter expert in energy management and building automation systems. This position operates under the general direction of the Engineering Manager, Engineering Team Leaders, and Project Managers, performing advanced engineering and leadership functions in alignment with the company’s Installation and Commissioning Standards.
The Level III Engineer is responsible for executing complete project engineering duties from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to quality, performance, and budgetary goals. In addition to all Level I and Level II responsibilities, this role includes mentoring junior engineers, verifying compliance with company engineering standards, and providing technical oversight on complex building automation projects.
Expert knowledge of WebCTRL, Tridium/JACE systems, Central Utility Plants, and third-party protocol integrations (e.g., Modbus, BACnet) is expected. The Level III Engineer may lead or assist in system start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization, while coordinating effectively with electricians, HVAC technicians, and other trades.

Manage multi-site databases, NAT configurations, and hierarchical server structures.
Configure and manipulate plant, hot water, chilled water, and air-handling unit managers.
Demonstrate deep understanding of advanced mechanical systems including storage, looped, and built-up configurations.
Design and implement third-party interface integrations independently, using Modbus, BACnet, and other relevant protocols.
Develop and deploy control logic, sequences of operation, and system programming from scratch based on field verification.
Optimize system performance for energy efficiency, implementing control loops and fine-tuning PID parameters.
Utilize and support ALC add-ons such as EnergyReports (ER), EnergyReports-IoT (EI), Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD), OFVI, and Trend Export.
Demonstrate advanced understanding of lighting systems, including contactors, photocells, and lighting function blocks.
Lead the development and enforcement of company Engineering Standards, collaborating with Team Leaders and Management.
Conduct full system simulations and logic verification prior to field release.
Stay current on ALC graphic libraries, drivers, add-ons, and WebCTRL software versions.
Engineer and optimize complex systems including chiller optimization, Axcelerate, and IntelliSuite Analytics Solutions.
Create advanced programming features such as heartbeat logic, cost calculation algorithms, DCIM integrations, and exposure settings.
Develop custom graphics, including floorplans, 3D renderings, isometric diagrams, summaries, tables, gauges, and equipment visuals.
Conduct project reviews and post-mortems to identify deviations, lessons learned, and opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate with leadership to translate project performance insights into actionable data for future proposals and sales efforts.
Assist Project Managers in schedule planning and project setup during assignment.
Deliver complete and accurate project closeout documentation, including files for WebCTRL integration.
Communicate partial and final project completions promptly to project stakeholders.
Maintain personal documentation of lessons learned to enhance efficiency and support continuous professional development.
