This is a full-time position with Los Angeles Unified School District.
The ideal candidate for the EMS Senior Technician role is an experienced HVAC Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) professional with strong troubleshooting, commissioning, and preventive maintenance skills. They should have hands-on experience maintaining and repairing HVAC control systems, reviewing energy usage data, and identifying energy-saving opportunities. The candidate should understand HVAC operations, basic electrical systems, and computer networking, while being comfortable performing field inspections, responding to trouble calls, and supporting EMS projects. Experience with multiple DDC platforms such as Trane, Schneider Electric, Carrier, or Automated Logic is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
The EMS Senior Technician will assist the EMS Supervisor in the duties and perform field work to help maintain the district HVAC Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and Energy Management Systems (EMS). The EMS Senior Technician will work with the LAUSD technical quality support team (TQST) to repair and maintain the HVAC DDC front end EMS and use them to encourage preventive maintenance, identify potential energy conservation measures, and suggest facility improvements.
Assist with HVAC DDC and EMS Design and Submittal reviews
Assist in reviewing utility data and energy usage to identify schools for recommissioning and retro commissioning
Assist in reviewing EMS, energy data, and alarms to identify no cost/low-cost energy conservation and preventive maintenance measures
Perform site visits to investigate and evaluate EMS/DDC conditions on identified projects
Scope out and implement low-cost solutions or alternatives to projects/repairs of EMS systems at existing school sites
Respond to trouble calls, calibrate systems, and troubleshoot and resolve basic electrical and DDC problems
Assist in managing In-House Commissioning Projects
Required Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years' professional experience as an HVAC DDC technician
Understanding of computer networking principles, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Ability to wire, start up, and troubleshoot basic HVAC DDC maintenance issues
Fundamental understanding of HVAC operations within a facility.
Required Education:
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's or associate degree in engineering (mechanical, computer science, electrical, information technology) OR Two-year technical degree in HVAC, Electronics-related studies with additional 2 years of experience to compensate for education on a year-for-year basis
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with multiple DDC manufacturers including Automated Logic, Carrier, Delta, Distech, Schneider Electric, or Trane
Proven ability to debug installation issues during both static and dynamic start-up phases
Experience supporting installation personnel and other contractors on project sites
Extensive experience in performing or assisting in performance of commissioning of EMS
