    EMS Training Officer

    Galveston Area Ambulance Authority (GAAA) is looking for a skilled and motivated EMS Training Officer to lead training and development across our emergency medical team. If you're passionate about education, enjoy building programs that sharpen clinical skills, and want to make a lasting impact on both providers and patients, this role is for you.

    In this pivotal position, you'll oversee new hire onboarding, manage our Field Training Officer (FTO) program, coordinate continuing education, and represent GAAA in community and industry partnerships.

    Must-Haves

    • High school diploma or GED
    • At least 1 year as a Paramedic or EMT, plus 1 year in a training or education role
    • Current Texas EMT-Paramedic certification (NREMT preferred)
    • Current BLS certification (ACLS and PALS/PEPP within 6 months of hire)
    • Valid Texas driver's license and insurability under GAAA policy
    • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
    • Willingness to work evenings/weekends as needed
    • Compliance with GCHD immunization and ICS training policies

    Nice-to-Haves

    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in EMS, Fire Science, Education, or related field
    • Instructor certifications (AHA BLS/ACLS/PALS, NAEMT, Stop the Bleed)
    • Completion of EVOC or CEVO (or within 6 months of hire)
    • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), scheduling platforms (e.g., WhentoWork), and databases
    • Strong computer skills, including MS Office
    • Customer service mindset with excellent written and verbal communication skills

    What You'll Do

    Training Development & Coordination

    • Design, update, and deliver training curricula and manuals for EMS personnel (with leadership approval)
    • Coordinate CE courses, maintain rosters, and track completions and renewals
    • Introduce and train staff on new protocols, equipment, and clinical updates
    • Oversee the FTO program, including manuals, evaluations, and release-to-work decisions

    Tracking & Documentation

    • Maintain accurate training records and audit files for compliance
    • Track new hire orientation and coordinate with HR
    • Administer or support the Learning Management System (LMS) for training assignments and reporting

    Collaboration & Representation

    • Partner with local schools on ride-outs and preceptor assignments
    • Represent GAAA at EMS education meetings and with training organizations
    • Support research, quality improvement, and community outreach initiatives

    Additional Duties

    • Support administration during disasters as required by regulations
    • Perform related duties as assigned
