EMS Training Officer
Galveston Area Ambulance Authority (GAAA) is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable EMS Training Officer to oversee all aspects of employee training and development. In this vital position, you'll lead new employee orientation, manage the Field Training Officer (FTO) program, coordinate continuing education, and represent GAAA administration at both internal and external meetings.

What You'll Do:
Training Development & Coordination
• Develop training curricula and manuals for EMS personnel with approval from leadership
• Coordinate continuing education courses, maintain rosters, and track completions and renewals
• Design and deliver training on new equipment, protocols, and updates to ensure competency
• Manage the Field Training Officer (FTO) program, including training manuals, evaluations, and releases
Tracking & Documentation
• Maintain accurate training records, audit files, and GAAA Standard Operating Guidelines
• Track new hire orientation and coordinate with Human Resources
• Administer or support the Learning Management System (LMS) to assign, track, and report training status
Collaboration & Representation
• Coordinate with contracted schools on student ride-outs and preceptor assignments
• Represent GAAA at EMS education meetings with other agencies and training organizations
• Participate in research, quality improvement projects, and community outreach activities
Additional Duties
• Assist administration during disasters per federal, state, and local regulations
• Perform other related duties as assigned
What We're Looking For:
• High school diploma or GED required, plus at least 1 year experience as a Paramedic or EMT, and 1 year in a training or educational role
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in EMS, Fire Science, Education, or related field preferred
• Texas EMT-Paramedic certification in good standing (NREMT preferred)
• Current BLS required; ACLS and PALS (or PEPP) required or to be obtained within 6 months of hire
• Valid Texas driver's license and insurability under GAAA policy
• Completion of EVOC or CEVO preferred or required within 6 months of hire
• Instructor certifications (AHA BLS/ACLS/PALS, NAEMT courses, Stop the Bleed) preferred
• Experience with LMS, workforce scheduling platforms (e.g., WhentoWork), and proficiency with spreadsheets/databases preferred
• Customer service oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong computer skills, including MS Office
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends if needed
• Compliance with GCHD Immunizations and ICS training policies required
• Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
