    Small class sizes! We only have 20 students per class.

    Each classroom has two dedicated adults at all times. Centers also have floating staff to assist when needed.

    After working for EOAC Head Start for a full calendar year, EOAC will contribute 3% of an employee's annual salary into an individual 403(b) retirement fund, at no cost to employees!

    General Responsibilities:

    It is the responsibility of all EOAC employees to support EOAC’s mission and goals, to respect the confidentiality of all who come to us for information or assistance, and to personally maintain the dignity and integrity of one who is placed in a position of public trust. Maintain confidentiality of client/agency information as required by State and Federal laws, appropriate regulations, and professional practice

    Essential Functions:

    1. Must be able to communicate effectively to individuals/groups in both verbal and written form. ex: coworkers, customers and suppliers/vendors. Maintain confidentiality of records as required by program policies and procedures.

    2. Ability to work with a positive and professional attitude.

    3. Must consistently demonstrate and communicate EOAC’s Mission and Vision.

    4. Must be able to meet the specific needs of children and work to nurture children’s physical, social and emotional growth in a childcare setting.

    5. Must provide consistent supervision of children; have ability to use appropriate and positive discipline; interact positively with all children to support their individual learning and meets their emotional needs. In collaboration with other center staff, supports and participates in ongoing recruitment efforts to ensure full enrollment.

    6. Assist in implementing the program curriculum and the Head Start Performance Standards for classrooms; plans and develops a daily schedule of classroom routines and activities. Prepare and implements lesson plans in accordance with the EOAC Head Start program Service plan and policies and procedures including an integrated, child centered, comprehensive curriculum and multicultural environment, which meets the needs of every child, including those with disabilities.

    7. Provide leadership and support to assistant teacher(s). Collaborates with Assistant Teacher or Team Teacher to prepare and organize the classroom and classroom materials in accordance with the planned classroom program.

    8. Communicates regularly and respectfully with families and involves them in the educational program. Encourages and supports families in working toward goals they have set for themselves. Collaborates with center staff in planning and facilitating family events/meetings. When working with diverse populations, accesses interpreters as needed. Conducts three hours of educational planning meetings annually with each child’s family. Assists with recruitment and training of family/community volunteers to participate in the classroom.

    9. Completes written observations of individual children at pre-determined times during the school year. Administer or ensure that a standardized screening tools is completed for every child within 45 days of the child’s entry into the classroom. Develops a learning plan for each child within 90 days of child’s entry into program. Maintain complete, confidential records for each child.

    10. Assist with planning, preparation and serving of snacks and meals; participates in and facilitates mealtime service and joins children at the table for support and conversation.

    11. Teaches and oversees health habits in the classroom, i.e. hand washing, tooth brushing, etc. Administers first aid as needed. Checks indoor and outdoor environment for safety hazards. Works in collaboration with Mental Health Professionals and Health Manager as needed

    12. Participate in EOAC Head Start/Early Head Start in-service staff trainings, staff meetings, and other education opportunities to gain knowledge and skills throughout the year. Participates in interdisciplinary planning for children and families to include staffing, multidisciplinary teams, individual education plans and other cross component content efforts.

    13. Works in collaboration with Assistant Teacher, families and center staff to ensure smooth transitions for children and families to enter the classroom and between Head start and Kindergarten.

    14. Responsible to keep self-informed of ongoing program changes and updates.

    15. Responsible for locating qualified classroom substitute to work in classroom when self or assistant will be absent from work

    16. Must immediately report violations of Personnel Policies and Procedures, Day Care Minimum Standards, or other guidelines governing the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs to the Center Director, Early Childhood Specialist, Administrative Services Manager or Head Start Director. Must comply with mandatory reporting requirements for suspected child abuse and/or neglect.

    17. Reports to work at scheduled times and maintain a good attendance record.

    18. Other duties as assigned.

    Competencies:

    3. Must have good organizational skills and proven ability to work within timelines to meet demands.

    4. Contributes to the development of communication, mutual respect, mutual support, competence, and creativity among all members of agency staff.

    5. A high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

    6. Intermediate skill and familiarity with Microsoft Office Applications: Word, Excel and Outlook.

    7. Must have effective presentation of information and strong spoken language skills.

    8. Ability and desire to work with pre-school age children from an at-risk population.

    9. Ability to maintain confidentially of student records, center records, and other sensitive student data.

    10. Extensive knowledge of childcare principles and procedures.

    11. Ability to relate to children and make the childcare facility an enjoyable atmosphere.

    12. Knowledge of early childhood teaching strategies.

    13. Comply with all Child Care Licensing and Head Start program requirements.

    14. Must make use of museums, libraries, artist, poets, writers, storytellers, musicians, and community theater groups to help children appreciate and enjoy diverse cultures.

    15. Must meet non-federal in-kind quota for classroom.

    Work Environment

    1. This job primarily operates in a day care environment with ambient lighting, and climate control.

    2. This job secondarily operates outside, in a playground environment with exposure to temperature, and humidity extremes, and weather conditions.

    3. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

    Physical Demands

    1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

    2. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; squat, bend, stoop, kneel, use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, lift children, and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

    3. Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending.

    4. Lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

    5. Maintain emotional control under stress.

    6. May be required under specific circumstances to provide appropriate physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others.

    7. Exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination. Occasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, etc.).

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. An Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.

    2. Must pass CPR/First Aid courses and renew annually.

    3. Must be able to pass Criminal History check including FBI fingerprint and DFPS background check. Must have clearance by the Child Care Division, Criminal History Registry.

    Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

    1. Must be able to pass pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) test. Non-refundable fee (approximately $25.00) paid by the employee.

    2. Must pass all pre-employment contingencies including post-offer pre-employment physical, and alcohol and drug screen.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1. Valid and current CPR/First Aid certification. 2. A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
