Position: Originations Carbon Finance Analyst
About EP Carbon
EP Carbon, a technical consultancy and project developer, is seeking an Originations Carbon Finance Analyst to join our growing AFOLU carbon practice. EP Carbon, formerly ecoPartners, is a leader in forest carbon and AFOLU projects. For more than 10 years we have built projects oriented to the evolving carbon markets that benefit our clients, threatened ecosystems, and the lives of the disadvantaged. We have been successful innovators in the voluntary and compliance carbon markets. EP Carbon specializes in the technical aspects of project design, planning, and development including but not limited to: remote sensing, forest biometrics, accounting methodologies, feasibility studies, project descriptions, and other technical documentation required to support incoming and ongoing projects. EP Carbon has served as technical consultant for dozens of carbon projects around the world, accounting for over 100 million tons of verified reductions on nearly four million hectares. We are currently working on projects across the Americas, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Our impelling goals are conservation, impact, and to expand the utility of carbon finance.
The role
The Originations Carbon Finance Analyst will review nature-based carbon projects and their associated financial models on behalf of our clients. The Originations work involves evaluating projects’ alignment with specific eligibility criteria, writing technical summaries and supporting documentation, managing early-stage client relationships, performing risk analyses, building carbon accounting models, running scenario analyses, and making internal presentations of project opportunities. The Originations Carbon Finance Analyst takes a holistic approach to analyzing projects based on carbon technical, regulatory, environmental, stakeholder, and financial factors, but will provide specific review of carbon finance components of new project opportunities for our team. This role will also support our Carbon Development team on active projects requiring financial analysis during the feasibility and design phase of carbon project development. The analyst will therefore be a key part of the Originations team, collaborating closely with the Originations Director and Analysts, as well as the Technical Directors and Managers for support of active projects in the design or development phase.

The position is fully remote, with option to work from the Minneapolis, MN office, if desired. Occasional travel may be required.
General responsibilities
● Support development of international nature-based carbon projects.
● Complete quality work items and deliverables with oversight of the team.
● Routinely correspond through Slack, videoconference, and email with stakeholders and the EP Carbon team.
● Attend internal and client meetings and conference calls regularly.
Primary responsibilities
● Screen nature-based carbon projects against eligibility criteria.
● Build financial models for nature-based carbon projects with oversight from managers.
● Test various financial scenarios and interpret results.
● Conduct holistic risk analysis of projects.
● Conduct literature reviews and documentation analyses.
● Gather data from clients through effective communication through calls, emails and data sharing.
● Be a go-getter when it comes to collecting the data you need to conduct your analysis and make recommendations.
● Write technical reports covering various project related topics including initial assessments of baseline environmental conditions, project scenarios, finance, regulatory frameworks, and stakeholder analyses.

Learning Opportunities
● Learn to assess nature-based carbon opportunities.
● Learn to conduct carbon technical analyses including geospatial, remote sensing, statistical, carbon, financial, and ecosystem modeling.
● Learn to conduct analyses of land cover using ArcMap and other GIS products.
● Learn about the various types of AFOLU carbon projects and international carbon standards.
Required Qualifications
● Hold Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in in Corporate Finance, Economics, or Econometrics.
● Have 2 to 3 years of work experience in Investments or Finance, building and interpreting financial models and conducting financial analyses.
● Able to build sophisticated financial models, prepare financial analysis, and make recommendations.
● Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office software.
● Demonstrated interest in conservation, natural resources, forestry, or environmental studies.
● Able to maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive project deliverables.
● Able to work effectively with remote team members throughout the U.S. and Europe.
● Have strong oral and written communication skills, and comfortable making technical presentations to internal teams.
● Have good time‐management and self‐management skills, and be able to take direction and work independently to reach identified goals on a set timeline.
Desired Qualifications
● Proficiency in Spanish and experience in Latin America
● A degree in Environmental Studies, Forestry, or Natural Resources is a bonus.
● Familiarity with voluntary carbon standards
● Background experience in copy editing, technical writing, or some other demonstrated experience in proofing and editing.
● Be organized and attentive to detail.
● Have a commitment to solving the environmental challenges of our time.
TERMS
● Remote – you can work in any of the following time zones: all time zones in Northern or Southern America, Latin America, Africa, and Europe.
● Salary range of $55,000-$65,000. Compensation commensurate with qualifications.
