    JOB PURPOSE

    The Powertrain CAE Engineer will be responsible for durability and NVH simulations of powertrain components, both rotating and stationary.  Participate in defining the powertrain architecture from concept to detailed design, collaborate with other departments to deliver vehicle performance and range targets, packaging and mass optimization.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND GOALS:

    • Full powertrain CAE model building and analysis
    • Multi-body contact simulations of rotating and stationary structural components
    • Perform structural dynamic simulations of rotating powertrain components
    • Optimization of structural components for stiffness and strength
    • Post process the results, identify root-cause of the issues and make design recommendations to meet the highest level of durability, efficiency and NVH performance for Canoo vehicles
    • Support component, sub-systems and vehicle testing to correlate the CAE model
    • Collaborate with vendors to improve the material database and accuracy of the model

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Equivalent
    • 10+ years of Automotive CAE experience
    • Strong understanding of fatigue principles and application to CAE models
    • Highly skilled in simulation theory, setup, and post processing
    • Strong understanding of electric machine and gearbox load paths
    • First-hand experience on developing vehicle structure from concept to launch
    • Strong understanding of physical hardware and its CAE representation
    • Proven expertise in structural and analysis methods and tools such as Optistruct / HyperMesh / HyperView / ANSA / or equivalents
    • Experience of Test-Simulation correlation in the component / sub-system / models
    • Strong communication skills and experience with presenting results and recommendations to multidisciplinary teams

     

    PREFERRED:

    • Master's Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
    • Experience in electric vehicle powertrain structural simulations
    • Electric motor simulation experience
    • Thermal / structural coupled simulation experience
    • Experience but not limited to steel and aluminum structure
    • Design and development of component and sub-system tests
    • Team building and mentoring experience
