    POSITION TITLE: Paving Estimator

    PAY STATUS: Non-exempt

    SUPERVISES: N/A

    PAY RANGE: $90,000- $130,000

    General Responsibility:  

    As a Paving Estimator for a Road Construction Company, your primary responsibility will be to assess and estimate the costs associated with paving projects. You will play a crucial role in helping the company make informed decisions, bid competitively on contracts, and ensure successful project execution. Your expertise in cost analysis, project evaluation, and communication will be essential in this role. 

    Significant Duties: 

    Project Evaluation:

    Review project specifications, blueprints, and any other relevant documents to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project requirements.

    Conduct site visits and assessments to gather critical data on site conditions, existing infrastructure, and potential challenges.

    Cost Estimation:

    Develop accurate and detailed cost estimates for road paving projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

    Utilize estimating software and historical cost data to ensure precision in your estimates.

    Consider variables such as weather conditions, project timeline, and local regulations in your cost calculations.

    Bid Preparation:

    Collaborate with the bidding team to prepare competitive bids for potential projects.

    Ensure that all cost estimates and proposals are compliant with project requirements and meet company profit margins.

    Supplier and Subcontractor Interaction:

    Solicit quotes and proposals from suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and accurate cost information.

    Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to facilitate smooth project execution.

    Risk Assessment:

    Identify potential risks and uncertainties in paving projects and propose strategies to mitigate these risks.

    Provide recommendations to the project management team on how to manage unforeseen challenges.

    Documentation:

    Maintain detailed records of all cost estimates, bid documents, and project-related correspondence.

    Keep accurate records of past projects and their outcomes to inform future estimations.

    Communication:

    Effectively communicate cost estimates and project details to various stakeholders, including project managers, clients, and company executives.

    Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless project handover from estimation to execution.

    Continuous Improvement:

    Stay updated on industry trends, cost-effective construction methods, and new materials to improve the accuracy and efficiency of your estimates.

    Requirements/Qualifications:  

    Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

    Proven experience in estimating, preferably in road construction or paving projects.

    Proficiency in construction estimating software and tools.

    Strong analytical and mathematical skills.

    Knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and safety standards.

    Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

    Attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

    Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.

    Physical Requirements: 

    While the role of a Paving Estimator is predominantly office-based, there may be some physical requirements and considerations:

    Ability to visit project sites, which may involve walking, standing, and potentially exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

    The need to lift and carry materials or equipment, though this is less common for estimators than for field personnel.
