  • Responsibilities

    The Arc’s Community Habilitation Supervisor works directly with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities in the community to provide person-centered support; promoting confidentiality, privacy, human dignity, uniqueness, and physical and emotional well-being. Help people develop and maintain relationships, advocate for justice, fairness and equity, and support full community participation. Shows respect, integrity and responsibility for the people supported, other staff members, and the community in which we work.    

     

    Plan with and support people in daily activities that they choose and are meaningful to them, which may include, but not limited to: household tasks, healthy dietary choices, recreational activities, learning activities, physical fitness activities, development of individual interests and money management. Identify opportunities to enhance and expand the individuals’ experiences by applying an approach to support that is individualized to their needs and skill level.

     

    Safely transport people to and from activities, errands and personal appointments, acting as an advocate on behalf of the individuals as needed within the community

     

    Maintain a positive relationship with family members/guardians of people supported, including providing status updates and acting as a positive liaison between family/guardians, and support team members.

     

    Maintains current treatment and habilitation plans by developing, coordinating, and implementing components, updating goals, documenting outcomes, etc.

     

    Ensures habilitation plans are reviewed according to the timeframes established in regulations for performance against goals to determine what changes should be made to provide a more effective experience for individuals. Ensures updates are communicated to staff in a timely manner.

     

    Required Skills

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

    • Valid NYS drivers' license

    • Must have own reliable vehicle to travel to different locations in the community.

    • COMPUTER SKILLS

    • BASIC OUTLOOK skills as evidenced by creating and sending messages, working with address books, message handling, creating and using personal folders, scheduling appointments, working with meeting requests and managing tasks.

    • BASIC MICROSOFT WORD skills as evidenced by the ability to produce basic business letters and simple tables and charts; as well as check spelling, set tabs, change page orientation, sort, save, open and organize electronic files

    • OTHER SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

    • Demonstrated ability to observe and relate to people with objectivity, sensitivity, and tact.

    • Demonstrated excellence in key leadership competency areas of effective written and verbal communication, successful problem solving, and prioritizing skills.

    • Ability to facilitate meetings and make presentations as required.

    • Positive attitude and tolerance to stress

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as treatment or habilitation plans, safety rules, and procedure manuals.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with groups of individuals, their family members, and other service providers or employees of the agency.

    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of options in situations where only limited instructions exist.

    Required Experience

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s Degree preferred or Associates Degree with combination of education and experience. Two years’ experience working with people with intellectual disabilities required. Supervisory experience preferred
