GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Manage and control the Transportation and Logistics operations for the assigned Division, in order to ensure shipments are handled accurately and timely to comply with customer requirements. Manage the relationship with Carriers, Port and Sales personnel.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
- Negotiate and monitor freight rates with current and potential trucking companies, evaluating actual rates and making benchmark with the transportation market, in order to increase profit margins, hire a high service level and acquire profitable new business.
- Oversee, arrange and forecast transportation operations, in order to attend future demand and comply with customers’ requirements to meet service level needs.
- Manage issues regarding delayed/problem/rejected loads, over-weights and accidents, maintaining constant communication with the trucking company, in order to resolve all issues and assure the timely and proper arrival of all products.
- Navigate the business through major events in the countries in which we operate, such as hurricanes and volcanos in our growing regions, government shutdowns, flooding at our ports, customer specific problems and identify changes in the company’s policies or procedures, in order to be prepared and guarantee an accurate and on time delivery of products and inform the carries/suppliers on time about new changes.
- Evaluate, implement and monitor new cost-effective transportation or technology methods that would be more efficient or profitable, in order to increase Dole margins for delivered freight.
- Interact and work with sales, DOCE, production teams and truckers, to develop partnerships and determine our day to day operation to maximize shipping efficiencies and facilitate on time deliveries to customers.
- Review and approve 3rd party billing to achieve minimal days outstanding on payments and comply with company’s policies.
- Create daily and weekly trucks, routes and load schedules, according customers’ requirements, in order to assure a timely and proper delivery of products.
- Monitor all interchange agreements and insurance certificates, in order to comply with Dole Risk Management requirements.
- Monitor turnaround time of Dole containers, notifying carriers and salesperson of late containers and review turn time reports for accuracy.
- Prepare and control the area’s budget, based on freight rates, fuel prices, truck availability, in order to ensure efficient and effective use of resources and meet company’s objectives.

PHYSIC _ AL REQUIREMENTS:_
- At times, individual may be exposed to inclement weather, loud noise from machinery, proximity to machinery in operation, and fumes/odors from products that are handled at the Port.
- Must be able to alternate between sitting and standing positions for prolonged periods.
- Must be physically able to lift to 50 pounds.
WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Availability to travel.
- Availability to work overtime, weekends, rotating shifts preferred/required.
