Job Description

Earl's Organic Produce, Inc., a leading distributor of organic produce throughout Northern California, seeks a skilled Fruit/Vegetable Buyer for our San Francisco Wholesale Produce Market headquarters.

The Buyer is responsible for the purchases of product and will be exercising independent discretion and judgement while doing so. This position also has the overall responsibility for the development, expansion and profitability of selected organic commodities. Be an entrepreneur!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Procure highest quality commodities at a price that meets the needs of both our customers and vendors;

· Works closely with leadership to write contracts or long-term procurement agreements;

· Work closely with Logistics Coordinator on Inbound shipment logistics as needed;

· Manage inventory effectively and perform daily inventory to evaluate quality and condition of items purchased;

· Research and identify highest quality sources of organic commodities;

· Closely monitor market conditions and emerging purchasing opportunities to evaluate buying opportunities for the company;

· Negotiate competitive and mutually satisfactory prices with vendor-stakeholders;

· Manage multiple purchase orders throughout each workday;

· Resolve any invoicing, quality and arrival issues that may come up in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Team as soon as possible;

· Communicate pertinent supply, quality and promotional information to internal team, including the Purchasing and Sales departments, in a timely and detailed manner, both verbally and in written forms;

· Expand relationships with existing vendors and establish and maintain relationships with new vendors;

· Research and identify new items and supply channels;

· Partner with Sales on large volume deals;

· Contribute to process improvement efforts;

· Participate in team projects and activities;

· Operate with trust, cooperation and innovation;

· Maintain short emotional memory;

· Punctuality and regular and reliable attendance.

Perform other duties as directed, developed or assigned.

Position requirements include:

• Valid driver's license and clean driving record

• Four or more years' experience in Product, Grower and Category Management. Significant experience in Wholesale Sales and Purchasing. Proven record of successful vendor relations and product assessment.

WAGE INFORMATION

Salary negotiable depending on experience.
