    About The Early Excellence Project

    At Early Excellence Project, we champion Black & Brown childcare providers by fostering quality, equity, and accessibility in early childhood education. We are committed to delivering tailored coaching, advocacy, and professional development to empower providers and influence policy.

    Hours: During the school year (September-May):

    Mondays: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (In-office)

    Tuesday to Thursday: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm (On-site at Miller Elementary School)

    During the summer months (June-August): flexible

    Reporting to: Project Manager, Erikka Grayson

    Job Description:

    As a Youth Engagement Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-impact tutoring through small-group instruction for elementary students. Your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    1. Designing and implementing engaging and effective instructional activities tailored to the academic needs of students in small group settings.

    2. Conducting ongoing assessments to evaluate student progress and adjusting instruction accordingly to ensure maximum learning outcomes.

    3. Creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters positive relationships and encourages active participation from all students.

    4. Collaborating with classroom teachers and other staff members to align instruction with curriculum goals and student needs.

    5. Monitoring and documenting student attendance, participation, and academic growth to track program effectiveness and inform future planning.

    6. Providing regular feedback to students and their families on progress and areas for improvement, maintaining open communication channels to address any concerns or questions.

    7. Adhering to all organizational policies and procedures, including those related to student safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Compensation: $15-$20/hour based on experience

    Qualifications:

    Educational Background: High school diploma required. Undergraduate students at any level of their academic journey are encouraged to apply, especially those enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in Education, Social Work, or a related field.

    Commitment to Equity and Excellence: A strong alignment with the mission of the Early Excellence Project, particularly in championing Black & Brown childcare providers and promoting equity and quality in early childhood education.

    Experience and Skills:

    Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, or teaching young children (ages 5-10) is highly desirable.

    Ability to design and implement engaging and educational activities that cater to the academic needs of elementary students in small group settings.

    Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster positive relationships with students, their families, and other staff members.

    Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and to adapt instruction based on student progress and feedback.

    Cultural Competency: Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the cultural and socio-economic characteristics of our student and provider community.

    Organizational Skills: Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and maintain detailed records of student progress.

    Flexibility: Availability to work the specified hours during the school year and a flexible schedule during the summer months. Willingness to adapt to changing schedules or program needs as required.

    Professionalism: Commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism, including adherence to organizational policies and procedures related to student safety, confidentiality, and conduct.

    Language Skills (Preferred, but not required): Proficiency in a second language commonly spoken in the communities we serve (e.g., Spanish) is a plus.

    Additional Requirements

    Must pass a background check as a condition of employment.

    Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and training as directed by the Project Manager.
