JOB SUMMARY:
The Optical Transport Designer/Engineer Specialist will be responsible for Optical Transport Network (OTN) assessments/audits, troubleshooting and implementation for Smart Grid utility clients. Will assist in the creation of proposal, scope, and level of effort estimation and implementation plans. Participates in project execution and technical delivery.
- Candidate must be a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision

- Candidate will assist in completing day-to-day operations/network equipment installation related to operations support
- Candidate should be versed with change management, maintenance window activities and rollback procedures as they relate to migration strategies.
- Good understanding and interpretation of IT/OT networking fundamentals and technologies
- Ability to take direction from Sr. Engineer Specialists to develop network job packages
- Ability to gather audit information, interpret and formulate network design documents. Examples include at a minimum: Network interconnect/cabling, power/fuses, leased circuit, rack profiles drawing, and equipment inventory presented in an organized manner to the Sr. Engineer Specialists for review
- Ability to identify issues and assist in providing feedback for best practices implementation
- Good understanding and interpretation telecom principles and technologies
- Knowledge of AC/DC principles
- Knowledge of Transport/Packet/TDM networks
- Participates on projects and application roll-outs
- Assists in developing and adhering to all engineering/quality processes and procedures
- Work hand-in-hand with project management on technical issues
- Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts
- Ability to document and follow processes
- Ability to understand and follow company and customer specific safety procedures
- Knowledge of optical transport network engineering principles, guides and standards
- Specific product knowledge and hands-on configuration experience on various SONET/OTN/DWDM/IP-MPLS/GE vendors (i.e. SEL ICON, Nokia 1830 and Ciena 6500, CISCO 15454, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with configuring, testing and evaluating optical and SONET networks using tools such as OTDRs, Light Meters, optical scopes and other related transport apparatus.
- Installation experience with commissioning and integrating optical network devices, fiber and cable management and AC/DC/fuse panels
- Good network documentation skills, including, but not limited to the development and evolving of network drawings, rack layouts, cut sheets and various technical deliverables.
- Competent writings skills in rendering and modifying professional processes and procedures, including System Requirements, Method of Procedures (MOPs), work packages, Request for Information (RFI) and Request for Proposals (RFP), among other related deliverables.
- Knowledge of telecommunications technologies and architectures
- Ability to scope engineering deliverable content
- Good industry knowledge and technology trends
- Experience with configuring RF/WiMax/Microwave radio equipment is desirable
- Cybersecurity knowledge and experience is also desirable
