    JOB TITLE:  Specialty Clerk (Job Code 1202)

    DEPARTMENT:  Specialty (Dept. Number 500)

    REPORTS TO:  Specialty Manager

    POSITION SUMMARY: The Specialty Clerk is responsible for upholding Earth Fare’s Vision, Mission, Declaration and Customer Service Creed, while adhering to the departments Standard Operating Procedures. Specialty Clerks work independently and in a team to ensure the Specialty Department is well stocked, clean, organized, rotated and merchandised appropriately. Additional responsibilities include cutting and wrapping specialty meats and cheeses for customers while providing exceptional customer service.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Adheres to the Earth Fare vision, standard operating procedures and merchandising guidelines, with a strong emphasis on customer service, safety and sanitation. Maintains a positive and professional work environment.
    • Production: Responsible for cutting and wrapping specialty cheeses based upon department production guides and direction from the Specialty Manager.  
    • Operational Tasks: Provides excellent customer service within the department and Charcuterie counter, slicing specialty meats and cheeses for customers. Maintaining proper stock and ordering levels of wines, beers, coffees, cheeses, meats and fresh pastas on the sales floor and back stock area. Opens, closes and maintains the olive bar. Ensures the passive sampling program is run according to program standards. Maintains freshness of cheeses by cutting/rewrapping when appropriate. Verifies proper signage and pricing of items. Assists Specialty Manager with inventory counts.
    • Merchandising: Maintains an attractive sales floor by implementing Earth Fare merchandising guidelines as outlined by the Specialty Manager.
    • Department Conditions: Maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and overall organization of the department including all fixtures, storage, work stations, freezers, and coolers.

    Required Skills

    KNOWLEDGE AND ESSENTIAL CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE

    1. Must demonstrate excellent customer service to customers and Team Members at all times.
    2. Must be able to work independently and within a team setting.
    3. Must be organized and pay close attention to detail.
    4. Must be able to multi-task and assist customers while completing necessary duties within the department.
    5. Must be able to read and follow both written and verbal instruction from the Specialty Manager and other store management.
    6. Must demonstrate manual dexterity with potentially hazardous equipment (slicers, knives, food wrap machines, etc.)
    7. Ability to learn and use a Falcon hand-held computer scanner and food scale.
    8. Willingness to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends and holidays. Flexibility to support sister stores in the same region when business needs arise.
    9. Must attend work on a regular and predictable basis.
    10. Must complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
    11. Must uphold Company policies, including the anti-harassment program.
    12. Must work in a cooperative manner with managers, supervisors, coworkers, customers and the public.
    13. Must uphold the highest standard of integrity, honesty and ethical behavior.
    14. Must work effectively and efficiently under stressful conditions.
    15. Must be able to work varying shifts, including overtime.

    Required Experience

    EXPERIENCE

    1. Previous food preparation experience preferred.
    2. Knowledge of specialty meats, cheeses, coffees, wines and beers preferred.
    3. Knowledge of industry trends, as well as common allergies and specialized dietary terms such as gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, etc. preferred.
    4. Experience working in a retail and/or customer service oriented environment preferred.

    The knowledge, skills and abilities listed above may be acquired through levels of education and experience, however, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience, which provide an applicant with the listed knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job, is acceptable.

     

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

    1. Works in a fast-paced environment with a focus on customer service.
    2. May work in environments of extreme cold.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    1. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. (In the event an item weighs over 50 pounds the Team Member should have another member of the team help lift the item).
    2. Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, kneel and squat.
    3. Must be able to push, pull, and maneuver heavy loads.
    4. Must be able to stand and be on one’s feet the majority of the work day.
