    Position Overview for Earthwork Estimator:

    The Earthwork Estimator will support the planning and execution of civil construction projects by providing detailed and accurate cost estimates for earthwork operations. This individual will play a key role in preconstruction efforts by interpreting plans and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, and preparing estimates for commercial, municipal, and private development projects. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with a strong foundation in earthwork estimating, solid communication skills, and a collaborative mindset.

    Duties & Responsibilities of Earthwork Estimator:

    Estimating & Project Development

    • Analyze project drawings and specifications to gain a comprehensive understanding of project scope.

    • Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed quantity take-offs for earthwork and related construction activities.

    • Develop time, labor, material, and cost estimates for construction projects.

    • Assist in the preparation of initial project schedules using scheduling software.

    • Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure estimates align with field capabilities and constraints.

    Client & Business Development Support

    • Build and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to support bidding efforts.

    • Represent the company at pre-bid meetings and industry networking events as needed.

    • Assist in preparing proposals and bid packages for commercial, municipal, and private development projects.

    Subcontractor & Supplier Relations

    • Solicit and review pricing from subcontractors and material suppliers.

    • Maintain organized records of subcontractor bids and cost data for future reference.

    • Assist with bid evaluations and subcontractor scope alignment.

    Technical Proficiency & Quality Control

    • Utilize estimating tools such as AutoCAD, HCSS Heavy Bid, and AgTek Earthwork Estimating Software (or equivalent).

    • Receive and organize drawings, specifications, and digital project documentation.

    • Participate in pre-bid and project planning meetings as required.

    Team Collaboration

    • Work closely with senior estimators, project managers, and field personnel to align estimates with operational goals.

    • Share technical knowledge with junior team members and contribute to team estimating standards and process improvements.

    • Support internal handoff of awarded projects to operations teams.

    Minimum Qualifications for Earthwork Estimator:

    Education & Experience

    • High School diploma or equivalent required.

    • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred but not required.

    • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in earthwork estimating or related construction experience.

    Technical Skills

    • Proficiency in scheduling software.

    • Working experience with HCSS Heavy Bid and AgTek Earthwork Estimating Software (or similar platforms).

    Licenses & Travel

    • Current valid driver’s license with a clean MVR (no DUIs, DWIs, major violations within the past 3 years).

    • Willingness to travel to job sites or attend meetings as needed (estimated travel 5–10% out of Kansas City Area).
