    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The MAP AND METADATA SPECIALIST will work in a team environment to process a  variety of map materials such as topographic, nautical, scientific, geological, land use maps by 1) Inputting basic map metadata (e.g., title, publisher, date) into NetSuite; and 2)Filing maps by category into the East View map library.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • As new map material arrives, input map metadata into NetSuite such as title, publisher, date published, size of cover for a variety of topographic, nautical, scientific, geological, and land use maps.
    • Write descriptions and create images for map products.
    • Maintain map library by properly and accurately labeling and filing paper maps by category in drawers and on shelves.
    • Coordinate with sales and marketing to ensure new metadata and procurement gets updated in any product catalogs.
    • Assist in selection of map products for key academic or library customers.
    • Other tasks assigned by Manager

    QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • 1+ years’ experience in a library, bookstore, museum, records management or similar.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Geography, Business helpful but not required
    • Foreign language skills (especially Russian, Chinese, Arabic) a plus, but not required.
    • Experience creating labels in Word; good practical experience using Outlook, Excel, and Word.
    • Experience with NetSuite or other ERP helpful.
    • Strong proofreading eye and/or attention to detail to spot errors.
    • Fluency in English to write map descriptions; as well as team and meeting correspondence.
    • Ability to complete data-related projects or other assignments with tight deadlines.
    • Must be able to adhere to rigorous data entry standards and rules.
    • Must maintain effective working relationships with teams and other employees or customers.
    • Fundamental knowledge of Geography to file and label by country

    WORKPLACE DETAILS

    • This is an onsite position split across two locations: Minnetonka and Plymouth
    • This is a full-time, hourly, benefits-eligible position in our Geospatial division
    • The work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with some flexibility depending upon the demands of the workload
    • Benefits include medical, dental, 401K, Life, and Disability
    • Work is done standing and sitting
    • Work sometimes involves lifting map folders weighing between 5-25 lbs; and using a step ladder to place maps on shelf.
    • Both work locations have ample (free) onsite parking
