  • Responsibilities

    JOB PURPOSE: Under direct supervision and following prescribed procedures, assists in processing physicians' medication orders. Performs measuring, mixing, and pouring in conjunction with compounding activities for patient care.

    REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent will have basic knowledge of the metric system and the ability to perform basic ratio and proportion mathematical calculations. Precise attention to detail required.

    Applicant should have the ability to work independently, with little supervision, and with a team. Excellent communication skills, as well as a knowledge of a variety of computer software programs is required. Knowledge of aseptic technique, excellent math skills, and the ability to work in a diverse environment is necessary, as well as a knowledge of compounding.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Understand and demonstrate antiseptic hand cleansing and disinfection of mixing surfaces as well as aseptic technique during extract preparation.

    • Regularly review stock of allergen extracts, diluents and mixing supplies while paying attention to expiration dates. Ensure older vials are being used first and that ALL vials are properly stored in the extract refrigerator. Alert supervisor to any damaged, miscolored or expiring supplies that will need to be replaced.

    • Prepare dilution extracts for allergy testing and mixing trays in accordance with EVENTS and manufacturer’s guidelines.

    • Review patient extract formulas prior to compounding vials. Ensure the formula is accurate, as prescribed by the Provider, and the appropriate dose has been ordered.

    • Label all patient vials prior to compounding extracts. Ensure accuracy of patient name, extract name, dosage and expiration date.

    • Using proper aseptic technique; prepare patient extract vials according to the prescription and advancing dosage. Verify right amount of each extract is drawn prior to placing into patient treatment vial.

    • Upon completion of vial preparation: Visually inspect vials for color, consistency and ensure appropriate amount of extract in bottle. Apply appropriate color cap and sticker to patient vial to indicate advancement, vial check, etc.

    • Review, verify and confirm prescription/advancement, and fill all patient Sublingual treatment vials according to EVENTS and manufacturers guidelines. Include patient SLIT log and instructions with vials prior to sending to patient or location.

    • Other duties as assigned.
