    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    Afognak Native Corporation’s Ataku Manager Program is a two-year full-time program designed to provide Afognak Native Corporation Shareholders with the skills and knowledge base necessary for managerial level positions within an Alaska Native Corporation or other business environment. It is anticipated that through concentrated training and mentoring, the Ataku Manager will be prepared to assume a managerial level position within the Corporation or another organization after graduating from the program.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Gain experience in all areas of operations for the Anchorage and Wasilla Brown Jug Liquor Stores.

    DEPARTMENT MANAGER (WINE, BEER, SPIRITS)

    REGULATORY ADHERENCE

    • Ensure that OHS, LP, ProServe/Serving It Right/TAP or Rserving and other regulatory requirements and procedures are implemented and adhered to
    • Participate in health inspections, audits and required corrective actions
    • Maintain First-Aid, LP and OHS Training
    • Maintain ProServe/Serving It Right/TAP or Rserving and ensure employees maintain ProServe/Serving It Right/TAP or Rserving

    STORE MANAGER/ ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER:  

    PEOPLE MANAGEMENT SKILLS

    • Create a work culture that makes your store an inviting place to work
    • Be a role model who coaches, mentors and inspires team members
    • Delegate tasks to team members and set priorities in partnership with Store Manager
    • Communicate in a clear and concise manner to team, participate in huddles/meetings/coaching sessions, relay pertinent information
    • Participate in store recruitment and create succession plans for the store in partnership with Store Manager
    • Support and coach team members to improve performance gaps; conduct ongoing coaching for improvements
    • Complete and hold team accountable to complete required training within allocated timeframes in partnership with Store Manager
    • Create and/or monitor the creation of efficient weekly store scheduling for both sales and support functions

    MERCHANT/BUYER – WINE, LIQUOR, BEER, NON-ALCOHOLIC AND TOBACCO CATEGORIES

    PURCHASING

    • Order, replenish, and merchandise wine and participate in regional program for purchasing and promotions.
    • Perform all functions related to breaking down deliveries, moving back stock to floor, and merchandising new products and stocking shelves.
    • Assist Team Leader in organizing and developing promotional displays, maintaining back room, and providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

    LOSS PREVENTION MANAGER

    • Learn to develop and implement procedures for minimizing the loss of merchandise, money or company assets as much as possible.
    • Formulate plans regarding customer and employee safety, emergency procedures, difficult customers and lost children.

     

    AREA MANAGER

    • Managing, training and motivating existing sales team to drive revenue growth
    • Develop and manage efficient distribution networks for sales
    • Develop efficient and creative sales and marketing strategies for the assigned territory and target setting for the sales team
    • Collecting customer and market feedback and reporting the same to the organization
    • Monitoring sales team performance, analyzing sales data, periodical forecasting and reporting to zonal heads

    TRANSFER WAREHOUSE – MULTIPLE POSITIONS, INCLUDING PICKER, DRIVER, RURAL SALES, WAREHOUSE MANAGER

    • Audit and report inventory while making recommendations on which items to order and restock
    • Manage warehouse associates, monitoring work and ensuring the safe use of warehouse equipment
    • Establish warehouse practices and protocols to achieve an efficient warehouse
    • Set warehouse and team goals in collaboration with executive management and other team leads
    • Monitor workplace performance and lead training initiatives to improve employees
    • Keep up-to-date on the latest federal and state safety regulations
    • Communicate with other departments to ensure products are shipped in a timely manner
    • Gain experience in a range of business functions such as those related to sales, inventory management, and product knowledge
    • Other duties as assigned

     

     

    Required Skills

    MUST BE AN AFOGNAK NATIVE CORPORATION SHAREHOLDER TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION:

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Must be a voting Afognak Shareholder. 
    • Must be self-directed, have strong customer service, and be interested in continued professional growth. 
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work with attention to detail. 
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required. 
    • A bachelor’s degree. 
    • Five years of work experience with demonstrated increasing responsibility. 
    • Exceptional demonstrated verbal and written communications skills. 
    • Ability to integrate easily, and work well in a team environment. 
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and judgment, with ability to apply tact and diplomacy in all situations. 
    • The ability to travel extensively utilizing many different forms of transportation and some evening/weekend work. 
    • Preference will be given to those candidates with a working knowledge of, and experience with Afognak Native Corporation and its subsidiaries.

     OTHER SKILLS/ ABILITIES

    • Understanding of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and Alaska Native Corporations a plus. 
    • A master’s degree in a field related to the applicants chosen field, preferred. 
    • Experience developing and managing program and/or department budgets. 
    • Experience supervising multiple staff.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • Work hours are subject to change, with overtime work as needed.
    • Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust odors and elevated noise levels.
    • Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces.
