    Job Summary:

    Field Technicians perform fieldwork and provide support for a variety of projects, with an expected ratio of 70% field and 30% office work during a typical week.

    The Field Technician would be working on projects that include seagrass surveys, benthic resource surveys, electrofishing, ichthyoplankton collection, water quality sampling and in-situ readings, deployment and retrieval of Hester-Dendy arrays and periphytometers, assisting with Stream Condition Index (SCI) sampling and sample sorting, deployment and retrieval of camera arrays and fish traps, support for ROV and AUV projects, collection of fish and monitoring in aquaria for survivability studies, associated field data collection, boat trailering and piloting, and other support roles on new projects.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    None.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Performance of monitoring and field surveys.

    Data collection, entry, and verification.

    Assists with the preparation, ordering, and maintenance of field equipment.

    Assists with the preparation of reports and related project documents.

    Prepares and performs QA/QC reviews on project data, scientific reports, technical documents and statistical analyses.

    Tracks deadlines/deliverables and ensures consistency with standard operating procedures and scopes of work.

    Prepares and assists with invoicing and supporting documents/receipts.

    Provides support for agency/client meetings.

    Assists in the preparation of meetings and agendas/minutes.

    Other tasks are assigned as needed to support new projects and individual professional development.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    Able to work independently and as part of a team.

    Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills with attention to detail.

    Ability to meet deliverable deadlines within the expected timeframes.

    Excellent communication, data management, technical writing, and creative problem-solving skills.

    Microsoft Office experience is preferred.

    Work remotely on occasion.

    Travel occasionally for short periods of time (i.e. 2 weeks).

    Must possess a clean driving record.

    Experience trailering and piloting boats.

    Able to follow standard operating procedures for multiple pieces of equipment.

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree required.

    Two years of related experience preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

    Able to work outdoors in extreme conditions (long hours, inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, biting insects).

    Perform work on unpaved, uneven surfaces (tripping hazards).

    Perform work in, on, and around water (canals, rivers, lakes, oceans, etc.).

    Must be able to stand, bend, sit, lift, and drive.

    Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

    Pay Classification:

    Part-time, Hourly, Non-exempt, Benefit eligible

    Senior Scientist II/Senior Scientist I/Biologist II /Biologist I
