    Ecological Associates, Inc. (EAI) is an environmental consulting firm with multiple locations across Florida providing a broad range of biological and ecological services. Detailed information on the firm, its clients, and the services it provides can be found on the website listed above.

    EAI is seeking resumes of FWC Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agents to support private and public sector construction projects, primarily in Southeast Florida . The candidate should be an agent in good standing with the agency and authorized to conduct gopher tortoise surveys, mechanical excavations, bucket trapping, and marking and transport. The candidate should be self-motivated and conscientious with a strong work ethic and the ability to meet deliverable deadlines within the expected timeframes. Must be able to follow complex instructions and communicate candidly and professionally with others, sometimes under adverse field conditions (e.g., inclement weather, biting insects, etc.). A clean driving record is required. Occasional overnight travel may also be required. The individual selected will interact with a highly experienced team of professionals and will participate in a variety of challenging terrestrial projects.

    Job Summary:

    Senior Scientists serve as lead project scientists, they are responsible for project design, logistical planning, and project implementation and work closely with clients, field crews, regulatory agencies, and the public.

    Job Requirements: The candidate must possess the following qualifications:

    FWC Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent Certification.

    Must be able to travel long distances in excess of 100 miles to remote worksites to perform field work.

    Qualifications: The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:

    NPDES Stormwater Management Inspector Certification.

    Experience conducting wildlife surveys, particularly for avian and listed species.

    Experience conducting wetland delineations.

    Experience operating 4X4 off-road vehicles and ATVs.

    Boat and/or heavy equipment operation experience a plus.

    Broad practical experience using GPS instrumentation and GIS programs.

    Strong familiarity with Florida’s ecosystems (upland, wetland, and scrub habitats) and proficiency with plant identifications.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Directs and assists in the training and scheduling of the activities of field personnel to ensure compliance and overall objectives.

    Provide coaching and track yearly goals for Field Technicians and Environmental Monitors.

    Prepare and deliver annual performance dialogues for Field Technicians and Environmental Monitors.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Prepares scopes of work, cost proposals, reports, and all related project documents.

    Supports the business development team by assisting with RFPs and proposals.

    Prepares, performs QA/QC reviews and provides comments on project data, scientific reports, technical documents, and statistical analyses.

    Tracks deadlines/deliverables and ensures consistency with scopes of work.

    Prepares and assists with invoicing and supporting documents/receipts.

    Attends agency/client meetings.

    Leads meetings and prepares agendas/minutes.

    Reviews scientific literature, participates in continuing education activities, and/or attends conferences and seminars.

    Other tasks are assigned as needed to support new projects and individual professional development.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    Able to work independently and as part of a team.

    Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills with attention to detail.

    Ability to meet deliverable deadlines within the expected timeframes.

    Excellent communication, data management, technical writing, and creative problem-solving skills.

    Microsoft Office and Smartsheet experience is preferred.

    Work remotely on occasion.

    Travel occasionally for short periods of time (i.e. 2 weeks).

    Must possess a clean driving record.

    Education and Experience:

    Experience supervising biologists and field staff.

    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree required.

    Five years of related experience required.

    Physical Requirements:

    Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

    Able to work outdoors in extreme conditions (long hours, inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, biting insects).

    Perform work on unpaved, uneven surfaces (tripping hazards).

    Perform work in, on, and around water (canals, rivers, lakes, oceans, etc.).

    Must be able to stand, bend, sit, lift, and drive.

    Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

    Pay Classification:

    Full-time, Salaried, Exempt, Benefit Eligible

    Reports to:

    Program Manager/Project Manager/Program Administrator
