    Job Description

    Overview:

    Are you passionate about using economic analysis to solve real-world challenges? Join the International Trade Administration (ITA) to support high-impact research that strengthens U.S. supply chain resilience and competitiveness.

    As an Economist , you'll work with senior decision-makers to develop data-driven insights, shape policy, and communicate findings through compelling reports and visualizations. Your work will directly inform national strategies to secure key industries and enhance the resilience of U.S. trade infrastructure.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop methodologies and frameworks for analyzing critical supply chain issues using economic modeling and data analysis.

    • Conduct in-depth research on trade and macroeconomic developments related to supply chain vulnerabilities, dependencies, and resilience.

    • Prepare detailed reports, briefing materials, and policy memos to inform senior leadership and interagency stakeholders.

    • Create impactful data visualizations and tools that help communicate economic insights clearly and effectively.

    • Provide subject-matter expertise and advice to guide policy recommendations and strategic direction.

    • Support oral briefings and discussions with high-level government officials and external partners.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in economics, public policy, statistics, or a related quantitative field.

    • At least 2 years of experience conducting applied economic research or policy analysis.

    • Strong proficiency in analyzing economic data and trends, with the ability to interpret and communicate findings to non-technical audiences.

    • Excellent writing, presentation, and visual communication skills.

    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working in or with federal agencies, think tanks, or economic research institutions.

    • Familiarity with trade policy, industrial base analysis, or critical supply chains.

    • Experience with data analysis software or tools (e.g., R, Python, Stata, Excel, Power BI).

    • Prior experience preparing policy briefings or economic impact assessments for government audiences.
