The Intern is generally someone who has recently graduated with a Bachelors degree and is looking for entry-level experience in Public Relations. S/he must demonstrate the ability to become a strong writer. Familiarity with the Public Relations discipline through past work experience, coursework and/or other internships is desirable. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Intern is responsible for assisting with implementing and monitoring projects within a specific set of consumer-related accounts under the direction of the supervisor. S/he works closely with and supports the needs of the account teams. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Identify, analyze, and report on media coverage across print, broadcast and online resources; * Assist with monitoring client competition coverage; * Assist in researching and vetting new leads based on tracked media coverage; * Use social media as tools to monitor for industry trends, report on PR results and identify industry influencers; * Develop and update media lists; find and propose new contacts for teams consideration; * Support client programs and closely monitor resulting coverage from announcements, events and launches; * Assist with and create media coverage and results reports; * Prepare for and organize logistics for events and media tours; * Assist with preparation of client communications and press materials, including press releases, media alerts, media pitches, collateral and mailers, utilizing AP style for materials development; * Conduct and compile research for existing clients and new business opportunities; * Participate in brainstorms when invited by the supervisor; * Develop basic understanding of key client information, including general business strategy, industry issues, products and services, key customers and competitors in the marketplace; * Develop basic understanding of research, media list building and monitoring tools (Cision, Factiva, Critical Mention, Compete.com, etc.); * Build basic understanding of principles of PR/communications marketing; * Develop basic understanding of clients business and a desire to stay on top of related industry trends. QUALIFICATIONS: Intern candidates must have a strong interest in the public relations field and possess good interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to work effectively with others in a fast-paced environment. An interest in working with food brands and the culinary/nutrition space is recommended.
