    COMPANY SUMMARY

    Eden Reforestation Projects is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization pursuing landscape restoration and pro-poor community development through nature-based solutions. Eden is working with people in developing regions of the world to protect and restore forests and ecosystems by mitigating the drivers of deforestation through philanthropic partners along with local community members. We have a global reach with active projects in East Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides overall strategic leadership and direction for Eden’s global financial and administrative functions. The CFO will provide guidance and support related to Eden’s enterprise-wide and operational risk management processes. This person will oversee Eden’s overall financial health and condition, including the management of its operating reserves, liquidity, assets management, liabilities, and future commitments. As a seasoned strategist, they will understand current accounting practices and trends in a variety of international contexts and will have experience raising capital, creating forecast models to anticipate future growth, and directing the preparation of financial reports and summaries. As a member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills in a rapidly evolving environment.  The right leader will function well working independently and leading teams remotely.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead the design and assessment of financial strategy and performance as it relates to managing against the annual budget and long-term goals while fostering organizational effectiveness and sustainability
    • Responsible for grants and contracts management, including designing program budgets for proposals and business plans, negotiating contracts and awards, forecasting spending, and providing decision support to program management and ensuring compliance with donor and contractor requirements
    • Oversee international finance and accounting operations in each project country, supporting the development of country level operational plans and budgets
    • In collaboration with the Executive Team, review legal and regulatory structures for financial reporting and accountability at country level offices, ensuring safeguards, pathways for compliance and risk mitigation to Eden
    • Oversee the timely and accurate development of budgets, financial reports, and models that will assist the CEO, Board, and other senior managers in making informed program strategy, resource allocation, and investment decisions
    • Review and manage (and establish as needed) internal systems, controls, processes, and procedures to ensure the integrity, accuracy, compliance, and usefulness of financial information and reporting
    • Responsible for the successful completion of annual audits, IRS filings, and other mandated reporting for our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Partner with and manage tax accountants in managing required IRS returns
    • Experience structuring and managing financial systems and processes to support General/Limited Partnership arrangements for capital funding
    • Partner with Development, CEO, and project leads to develop successful proposals and other resource acquisition strategies, while establishing systems and processes to help steward donor/client intent in the management and reporting of funds

    • High-level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, NetSuite or other accounting software platforms

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance required or equivalent experience
    • Successful experience managing an annual budget of at least $50M
    • Certified Public Accountant designation preferred
    • Multilingual skills especially in French, Spanish, or Portuguese a plus
    • Eight to ten years of supervisory experience and a demonstrated ability to develop and lead others

    WORK CONDITIONS

    • Position is remote and has global responsibilities
    • Requires a commitment to work in a global asynchronous team with atypical hours
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, bending, twisting, regular walking, and reaching
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
    • Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time (e.g., two weeks)
