    Job Description

    2020-21 SCIENCE TEACHER ROLE DESCRIPTION

    WHO WE ARE

HOW CAN WE USE EDUCATION TO TRANSFORM THE LIVES OF STUDENTS AND THE COMMUNITIES AROUND THEM? At Ednovate, we intentionally ask that question each day. We are on a mission to disrupt the cycle of educational inequity and ignite young minds with a deeper sense of passion and purpose. OUR GOAL IS TO CREATE POSITIVE MULTIGENERATIONAL CHANGE (PMC) - the type of change that can impact our student's lives, our communities, our nation, and our world. The Ednovate education is unlike that of any other high school. We take equal parts academic rigor and a personal approach for each student to create an experience that encourages every student on their own lifelong voyage of discovery.

Ednovate launched its first school, USC Hybrid High College Prep, a personalized learning high school, in 2012. Since then, Ednovate has grown to five schools (will be 6 in Fall 2020!) and is on a trajectory to continue to grow over the next several years. As experts in running high schools that honor the whole child, Ednovate is committed to serving in areas where students traditionally lack access to a quality college-prep education by building tuition-free, safe, and high-performing public schools to serve neighborhoods that need it the most.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EDNOVATE TEACHER:

The Science Teacher will have three primary functions: serving as a teacher of Science, leading an advisory of students through their senior year, and being a contributing member to multiple teams. This position is open to those with a background in anatomy, physiology, biology/life sciences or general science.

    TEACHING:

    • Responsible for creating, adjusting, and executing a rigorous college-prep curriculum that integrates technology and flexible use of space and time in order to deliver the best learning for students at the right moment.
    • Coach and mentor students through performance task projects, where students design a project aligned with one of our four yearly themes (know yourself, know your community, know your nation, and know your world).
    • Enforcing, with 100% consistency, our school-wide Caring and Accountable student code of conduct to create a safe and rigorous learning environment.
    • OVERALL GOAL: Make significant gains on the ACT with students.

    ADVISORY:

    • Supporting your advisory students in meeting our six yearly promotion requirements (Presence, Self-Regulation, College Rigor, Critical Thinking, Purpose, Mastery)
    • Create a sense of community amongst a cohort for their four years of high school together.
    • Help students set and reach academic goals, support the college-going process, and develop socio-emotional skills.
    • Build meaningful relationships with parents/guardians, serving as the primary interface between family and school.
    • OVERALL GOAL: Students meet their yearly promotion requirements.

    TEAM

    • Be an active participant and accountable team member.
    • Anticipate learning from and sharing with their colleagues.
    • Engage in lively debates around planning, student learning outcomes, and maintaining a school culture.
    • Never shy away from conflict or accountability for results.
    • OVERALL GOAL: Effectively contribute to our collective strategic plan goals.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The ideal candidate is:

    • Passionate about increasing the college attainment rate in low-income communities.
    • Certain that all students can go to college.
    • Entrepreneurial and enjoys having autonomy, flexibility, and accountability.
    • A collaborative team player who works well with other adults and engage in healthy conflict to get the best results for students.
    • Resourceful and persistent, constantly seeking to improve upon results.
    • Someone who strives to be the best at what they do and has fun along the way.
    • Committed to personalizing learning for each student and willing to learn with us as we innovate in our use of space, time, the role of teachers, and technology.
    • Comfortable with a high degree of transparency around results and accountability for results.
    • Supportive of our Caring and Accountable culture and effective in maintaining a consistent, disciplined classroom.
    • A graduate of a four-year university

    EDNOVATE NON-NEGOTIABLES:

    • A history of high achievement and results
    • Impressive work ethic ("good isn't good enough")
    • Clear passion for Ednovate's Mission
    • Obsessive attention to detail
    • Serviced-focused mentality
