We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and proactive Education & Behavioral Specialist to join our leadership team at our Vista center and help ensure every child, teacher, and family receives the support they need to thrive.
Position Summary
The Education & Behavioral Specialist serves as an in-house expert in child development, classroom behavior support, teacher coaching, and family partnership. This role works collaboratively with center leadership, classroom educators, and families to support children ages 6 weeks to 6 years by promoting positive behaviors, social-emotional development, inclusive practices, and developmentally appropriate interventions.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining The Learning Experience’s commitment to excellence, consistency, and joyful learning.
Key Responsibilities
Child Observation & Behavioral Support
Conduct classroom observations across all age groups, from infants through preschool.
Identify social-emotional, developmental, sensory, or behavioral concerns early.
Design and implement individualized behavior support strategies and intervention plans.
Provide direct in-class support for children experiencing emotional dysregulation, peer conflict, transition difficulties, or developmental challenges.
Collect behavioral data, track progress, and adjust support plans as needed.
Teacher Coaching & Classroom Excellence
Partner with teachers to strengthen classroom management and positive guidance practices.
Model effective strategies including redirection, emotional coaching, conflict resolution, and co-regulation.
Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development support.
Help ensure classroom environments align with TLE standards, curriculum expectations, and licensing requirements.
Family Partnership
Build trusting relationships with families through compassionate communication and collaborative problem-solving.
Meet with parents to discuss developmental progress, behavioral concerns, and support strategies.
Provide families with resources, referrals, and actionable tools to support consistency between school and home.
Inclusion & Developmental Services
Support children with sensory needs, developmental delays, neurodiversity, or social-emotional challenges.
Collaborate with outside specialists, therapists, regional centers, and support agencies as appropriate.
Help create inclusive classroom practices that support all learners.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate observation notes, intervention documentation, and follow-up records.
Support compliance with California licensing regulations and center policies.
Participate in child study meetings, leadership meetings, and professional development.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in **Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Special Education, Behavioral Science, or related field preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in early childhood education, behavioral intervention, special education, or related field.
Experience working with children ages 0–6 in group care or educational settings.
Strong understanding of social-emotional development, trauma-informed care, positive behavior support, and developmentally appropriate practice.
Experience coaching adults and collaborating with families preferred.
Knowledge of California childcare licensing standards preferred.
Preferred Certifications
California Child Development Permit
Pediatric CPR/First Aid
Mandated Reporter Training
Training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Positive Behavior Support, or trauma-informed care
