Boston Accountable Care Organization (BACO) is seeking an innovative and inspirational physician leader to serve as Medical Director, providing overall clinical program leadership across risk contracts.
The Medical Director will oversee overall performance management, including the development and implementation of strategies for medical expense management, quality performance, risk adjustment, and others at BACO's member institutions. The Medical Director will work in close partnership with clinical and administrative leaders within Boston Medical Center Health System's Population Health leadership team to define overall strategy and clinical programming. The Medical Director will be the primary leader accountable for the execution and implementation of the performance management strategy at primary care practice sites.
Within BACO, we endeavor to change the course of members' lives by systematically changing how we deliver care through partnership with executive clinical, administrative, and financial leadership across provider groups. In collaboration with the Population Health team, the Medical Director will drive policy development and implementation to address, for example, low acuity emergency department utilization, challenging clinically and socially-focused quality improvement projects, and substance use disorder strategy and treatment pathways at the system level.
This is an exciting time to join BACO and Boston Medical Center Health System. In early 2018, as part of Medicaid restructuring in Massachusetts (“MassHealth”), the state launched nearly 20 MassHealth Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) across the Commonwealth. With the goal of improved outcomes and more coordinated care, MassHealth ACOs seek to deliver high quality care at a lower cost. BACO is one of the largest of such ACOs, with over 110,000 covered lives from 19 different organizations across Massachusetts - many of whom experience multiple comorbidities, substance use disorder, behavioral health, homelessness, and other social determinants of health. In addition to the MassHealth ACO program, BACO participates in several other commercial and Medicare contracts, which are also included in the scope of the Medical Director.
Given the strong focus on partnership with affiliated health centers, hospitals, and other clinical sites, significant on-site presence at these locations will be necessary. Statewide travel between Boston, Southeastern Mass, and Western Mass is expected.
The Medical Director will report to the Executive Director, BACO.
Boston Medical Center Health System is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer. Salary and faculty rank will be commensurate with prior experience and qualifications.
