    Covia is looking for a dynamic SENIOR TAX ACCOUNTANT who will have a positive impact on the FINANCE team at its INDEPENDENCE, OH location. This position will support the Tax Manager in the preparation of federal, state and local income/franchise tax filings. This person will also support the Tax Manager in preparing quarterly and annual tax provision calculations. The Senior Tax Accountant will have primary responsibility for foreign income tax return compliance and will support the Tax Manager with foreign portion of the quarterly and annual tax provisions.  The Senior Tax Accountant will work with Accounting Department to manage the fixed asset ledgers required for tax reporting.  Also, this position will work with the Accounting Department to manage unclaimed property and will have primary responsibility for the preparation and filing of annual reports. 

     

     

    THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Assist Tax Manager with Federal, state & local income/franchise tax compliance, including assisting with the accumulation of information needed to prepare returns, resolving notices and managing audits
    • Manage foreign income tax return compliance and support Tax Manager with foreign portion of the quarterly and annual tax provisions
    • Primarily responsible for preparing and filing state annual reports (filed with Secretary of State offices and other govt. entities), working with other departments, such as Accounting, Legal and Payroll, as needed
    • Work with Accounting Department to identify unclaimed property, assist in the development of reporting procedures, and have primary responsibility for reporting to government entities
    • Perform tax research, as needed, such as taxability of transactions for sales and use tax purposes
    • Assist, as needed, with sales, use & property tax audits

     

     

    THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or other related field required
    • 3-5 years experience with indirect tax compliance and research of taxability of specific transactions required
    • 1-2 years supervisory experience preferred
    • Must possess strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills
    • Must have strong working knowledge with accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications
    • IFS experience preferred
