Under general supervision and with independent judgment, supervises and coordinates the activities of commercial lines underwriting staff to facilitate the growth and profitability of commercial lines business in an assigned territory, by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Ensures the profitability and growth of commercial lines business in an assigned territory, including:

a. Works with staff to build and maintain agency relationships
b. Works with staff to attain profit, quality, growth, diversification, and other operational objectives
c. Supervises the rating process to ensure service and quality standards are met on new business submissions, endorsements, and renewals
d. Supervises the underwriting function to ensure proper risk selection, pricing, and monitoring of renewal business
e. Works with the CL Underwriting Support Team Leader, to set the direction for the underwriting support function
f. Plans and organizes work and territory assignments to achieve results
g. Works collaboratively with product managers and technical coordinators to execute commercial lines best practices
h. Works collaboratively with the field marketing and loss control functions on risk selection

2. Functions as a Supervisor of a business unit, either directly or through subordinate leaders, including but not limited to:

a. Recommends and communicates goals. Directs operations to ensure the achievement of required results
b. Develops, recommends and implements operational plans and procedures
c. Trains, coaches and leads staff
d. Prepares and/or reviews performance appraisals. Conducts performance review meetings
e. May recommend and/or implement employment actions, including employment/termination, corrective action, promotions/demotions, salary changes, etc.

3. May serve as a contributing member or leader of project team(s), coordinating resources to ensure achievement of project goals

4. Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
