    Job Description

    At EDMO, staff members spend their summer connecting with kids, honing leadership skills and making a real impact - all while rocking wacky costumes and getting pied in the face! Our summer positions offer a unique opportunity to help kids uncover hidden talents, while pursuing your own personal and professional goals and passions. Spend your summer developing translatable and transferable professional skills (like mentoring and behavioral management) while growing social emotional learning skills side by side with the kids (like collaboration, empathy and problem solving).

    We are hiring for this position for our in-person programs and our online programs. Main duties for this position may differ depending on which program you choose. Some details for the position are listed below and more details will be provided during the interview process.

    FOR IN-PERSON CAMPS: The Counselor is responsible for overseeing all day to day activities with their group of campers. They support instructors with curriculum in the classroom and help run organized periods of Team Time (Social and Emotional Learning curriculum) and Outdoor Game Time with their assigned group of campers daily. In addition, counselors should constantly be ready to rock that EDMO vibe with songs, skits, games, and more! *As a result of Covid-19, Counselors at in-person camps will have a greater responsibility in keeping kids safe and surfaces clean and sanitized. They will also help supervise children on keeping their masks on and washing their hands correctly.

    FOR ONLINE CAMP: The Counselor is responsible for supporting and providing behavior management for instructors. They will check in on all groups, support instructors during lessons, and assist with check-in. They will be assigned to 3-4 groups a week. Counselors will also pull campers out who need additional support using the EDMO Method to calm upset or frustrated campers, help them through their struggles, and work to get them back into their classroom in an efficient manner.

    Main duties include:

    • Approach camper growth with passion and excitement

    • Navigate groups of 12-15 kids through daily activities focused on various curriculum themes including science, technology, maker, nature and more

    • Help lead organized activities during Outdoor Game Time and Team Time for your group of campers

    • Support instructors in the classroom with curriculum and hands-on classroom activities

    • Work closely with other staff members to create fun camp games, songs, skits and activities – and participate in all

    • Assist in daily camper check in and check out procedures (whether they are online or in person)

    • Support and help build positive group dynamics among campers

    • Interact with parents in a professional and energetic manner

    • Help cultivate healthy self-esteem and a natural love for learning 

    • Ensure all campers are safe and have a positive experience in our program (whether the program is online or in person) - this includes diligently following all EDMO Covid-19 guidelines and restrictions, if you are working at our in-person programs

    • Exhibit the EDMO Vibe and demonstrate through actions and words each of the social emotional learning (SEL) skills of empathy, responsibility, initiative, collaboration, problem solving and emotion management, while also reinforcing these qualities in other staff and kids

    Qualifications

    • Experience (and a love for!) working with kids

    • Current college student or very mature high school student (must be at least 16 years old by start of the position)

    • High sense of responsibility and dependability 

    • Contagious enthusiasm and charisma

    • Strong team player

    • Creative, flexible, and excellent multi-tasker

    • Willingness to solve problems, be patient, and remain positive and fun

    • Previous camp experience preferred but not required

    • A large supply of costumes and/or a plethora of skits and songs in your back pocket is a PLUS!

    • For in-person programs only, willingness to wear a mask, remain social distant at all location sites, and be meticulous about diligently following all EDMO Covid-19 guidelines and restrictions as it pertains to matters of safety

    Additional Information

    This position is full-time during the summer. Exact dates will be discussed during the interview process. Dates will depend on the program site with programs running from June 7-September 3rd for a duration of 6-9 weeks.

    Hours: The hours for this position are listed by programs below.

    • In Person program hours: 8:00am-5pm (with 2 x 30 minute breaks) Monday through Friday
    • Online program hours: 9:30am-4pm (with a 30 minute lunch) Monday through Friday

    *Please note that this job no longer requires any overtime. 

    IN-PERSON SALARY: Range of  $18-19/per hour depending on location/region and experience

    ONLINE SALARY: $16/per hour

    FOR 2021 IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING: _To ensure the safety of everyone in the EDMO community, we will be following all local and state COVID-19 policies as they evolve. Given current restrictions, all EDMO groups currently have a maximum of 12 campers and 2 staff members. This number may be adjusted as various county regulations allow. Our safety measures include health monitoring, diligent cleaning, masks, and social distancing.     A COVID-19 safety waiver will be required of all in-person staff at the time of hire and includes mask guidelines, requirements for good health with no COVID-19 symptoms and expectations that staff will make responsible choices regarding high-risk behavior within the community while working at EDMO.
