    We are actively searching for a BIOPROCESS ENGINEER to join Eichleay!  Do you thrive working in a collaborative environment with diverse clients and projects?  Are you a BIOPROCESS ENGINEER who has a passion for supporting projects in a multi-discipline environment.  This is a new full-time position with Eichleay that can be based remotely from a home office or out of our Southern California operations located in WESTMINSTER, CA*. You will report into the Process Team Manager and work closely with clients and team members supporting your assigned projects.

     MOVE FORWARD WITH EICHLEAY

    Do you enjoy getting involved in small to large projects working with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and designers? At Eichleay you will perform design engineering for a variety of new and existing facilities, applying your knowledge and experience in biopharmaceuticals to support conceptual, basic, and detailed design project phases.

    Primary responsibilities will include equipment specification and design review, vendor collaboration, heat and material balances, process flow diagram (PFD) and piping & instrumentation diagram/drawings (P&ID) development, design calculations, utility requirements/systems analysis, URS specifications, and provide support on equipment arrangements and PHA/ FMEA reviews. Demonstrates awareness and commitment to health, safety, and environmental issues. Addresses those issues as necessary to ensure zero harm to all employees, clients, and contractors with zero environmental incidents.  

    Compensation $110,000-$130,000

    ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

    • Able to apply knowledge of Bioprocess and Biotechnology principles to complete process engineering tasks under the supervision of a senior engineer.
    • Develop process data sheets for lab and production equipment including bioreactors, custom utility/process skids, vessels, benchtop equipment, freezers, etc.
    • Performs process engineering calculations such as hydraulic evaluations and line sizing, relief device sizing, and equipment sizing.
    • Interface with other internal engineering disciplines (mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation, automation, architecture, etc.) to ensure a coordinated design and complete engineering deliverables.
    • Support of all project phases from conceptual design to detailed design and commissioning.
    • Review vendor drawings to ensure design accuracy and compliance with specifications.
    • Prepare equipment requisition packages.
    • Perform internal QA/QC review of project deliverables before submitting to client.
    • Prepare and complete equipment Qualification and/or Commissioning documentation.
    • Participate in Hazard Analysis sessions.
    • Attend Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.
    • Provide construction support activities including responding to submittals and RFIs.
    • Perform utility sizing calculations and utility system analysis.
    • Ability to work effectively in a schedule driven environment where timing is a critical function.
    • Effectively interacts with all levels of employees, clients, and vendors.
    • Ability to deal with change and demonstrate flexibility as required.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or Biochemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program with 5 or more years of experience.

    • Authorized to work in the United States.

    • Experience with facility design, construction, and working with multiple discipline engineering projects.

    • Experience in design and operation of Biopharmaceutical facilities in manufacturing, pilot plant, and laboratories.

    • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines, including FDA, cGMP, and ASME Bioprocess Equipment (BPE), process qualification and validation requirements, hazardous area requirements and certifications.

    • Understanding of and experience with single-use technology.

    • Understanding of sanitary design of equipment, design and sizing of CIP (clean-in-place) and SIP (steam-in-place) systems, purified water systems, and clean steam.

    • Strong communication skills, including writing skills preparing reports to describe design conclusions, deliver presentations, analyses, etc.

    • Proven ability to develop PFDs and P&IDs.

    • Ability to be badged for process safety management governed facilities, which require in depth drug screening.

    • Ability to travel to client sites as needed and meet client facility entry requirements.

    • Project and/or design experience with standard industry equipment including Bioreactors (Fermentation/ Cell Culture), Media Preparation / Solids Handling, Product Recovery (Centrifugation, Cell Disruption, Cryopreservation), Purification (Chromatography, UF/DF/TFF/Lyophilization) and Bio-waste Deactivation/ Neutralization.
