    Looking for a new opportunity as a PIPING DESIGNER?  We are seeking a PIPING DESIGNER to join our team in WESTMINSTER, CA. In this role you will work in a schedule driven environment where timing is a critical function. As a member of the piping department you will work in a collaborative multi-discipline environment and report into the Piping Department Manager.

    As a PIPING DESIGNER at Eichleay you will review brownfield site conditions, assist in laser scanning, review piping specifications, develop 3D models in CADWorx, prepare piping isometrics, plan elevation drawings and bills of materials. You will participate in project meetings, model reviews and interface with other disciplines that are working in the 3D model. This position may coordinate the work of other assigned designers and drafters, and is responsible for reviewing and checking assigned work to meet quality standards.

    Eichleay’s projects are typically small to medium size brownfield projects in client facilities. Our clients are in the refining, chemical, life sciences, pharmaceutical and food/beverage industries. 

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS: 

    • Prepares drawings and layouts, specifications, technical calculations, charts and graphs, cost estimates, and bills of materials.
    • Responsible for developing designs for complete and complex engineering systems, structures and plant arrangements.
    • Demonstrates awareness and commitment to health, safety and environmental issues.   
    • Receives minimal supervision on unusual or difficult problems, and general review of all aspects or work.
    • Reviews and checks calculations, design models, drawings and design documents for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality, and satisfactory completion.
    • Plans, organizes, and coordinates own work as well as work of assigned designers and drafters.
    • Plans and executes the presentation of arrangements in graphic form or in detailed scale models.
    • Consistently achieves goals, delivers quality and accurate work and meets timelines.
    • Effectively interacts with all levels of employees, clients and vendors.
    • Strong customer focus with commitment to building enduring relationships that yield customer satisfaction and loyalty.
    • Ability to deal with change and demonstrate flexibility as required.
    • Adheres to required processes and embraces opportunities for continuous improvement.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Associate degree in an engineering discipline and SIX OR MORE years of experience; or specialized courses in drafting, design and engineering practices plus EIGHT ADDITIONAL years of piping design experience.
    • 3D modeling design experience and understanding of 3D modeling best practices/procedures.
    • Strong background in refinery or petrochemical plant brownfield work including understanding of layout/installation of piping in existing pipe racks and equipment layout in existing facilities.
    • Good understanding regarding best practices to coordinate other disciplines working in the model environment in order to ensure clash free design.
    • Knowledge, API, ASME and ANSI standards.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to interact effectively with clients, project team members and other staff.
    • Experience working with laser scan technology and software.

    PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Experience working with laser scan technology and point cloud manipulation.
    • Experience with CADWorx 3D pipe modeling 2018 version.
    • Experience with Autoplant 3D, PDS, Smart Plant, and/or PDMS.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Ability to perform site walk downs which may involve climbing stairs and ladders to reach elevated platforms.
    • Must be able occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Overtime may be necessary as workload dictates. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
    • Job will generally be performed in an office environment, but may require travel to visit a Client’s office, production facility or industrial/construction job site. Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
