  • Responsibilities

    Provide Health Physics technical support in the implementation and execution of Radiation Safety requirements for the Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) Safety Office to facilitate Health Physicist services in the area of Radiation Safety with respect to DOD commodities to support the AMCOM Safety Office through review of test data, site surveys and inspections for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) site License management which permits transport, handling, and maintenance performed on aircraft and missile components at depot, overhaul and maintenance sites by providing technical expertise in the area of human factors engineering associated with radiation and radiation safety for the evaluation of systems and components. Support required to perform management and administration Health Physics for the specified efforts or specific tasks required in support of the AMCOM/U.S. Army Contracting Command-Redstone Arsenal, AL.  All tasks will be performed onsite (Redstone Arsenal (RSA) unless otherwise indicated.  Travel may be required to accomplish specified tasks and support functions. Responsibilities include directing, coordinating, and supporting the AMCOM mission assisting in the optimization and execution of human factors and radiation safety support to the warfighter and members of the acquisition, sustainment and AMCOM R&D community. 

    Provide support directing engineering and technical personnel with radiation safety expertise in existing techniques and analysis, while developing new and innovative ways to ensure the safety of the soldiers, civilians, contractors and non-combatants. Ability to support radiation surveys, measurements/sampling at AMCOM facilities by providing technical expertise in the area of radiation and radiation safety recording acquired data for analysis and interpretation.

    Must have ability and knowledge to assist AMCOM Safety Office Radiation Safety Training effort training Radiation Safety Officers and Civilians involved with AMCOM licensed commodities. Must be capable of providing technical expertise in the area of human factors engineering associated with radiation and radiation safety, reviewing training and training materials, and providing recommended changes to documentation techniques and procedures related to health hazards associated with radiation. Includes providing assessments and evaluations

    Required Skills

    Registered Health Physicist with at least 10 years’ experience in area of Radiation Safety.

    Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of AMCOM and Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) programs for DoD weapon systems, commodities and infrastructure.

     Knowledge and understanding of Army Safety Program - Army Regulation 385 –10; Army Explosive Safety Program; Army Radiation Safety Program - 10 CFR 835; and MIL-STD

    Required Experience

    Bachelor's degree in physical sciences, engineering, or in a biological science

    Min 10 years of experience in the area of Radiation Safety

    Registered/Certified Health Physicist (CHP)

    Former Military (Air Force, Navy, or Army) desired

    DoD Security Clearance Required
