    Job Description

    MECHANICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER will provide direct and indirect leadership to Mechanical Engineers so that products and/or services are delivered in response to customer needs. The Manager will provide mentorship and leadership to the team while carrying out the strategic plan by meeting business goals & objectives.  This role will be responsible for developing and growing the skills and tools of our Mechanical Engineering team. The Manager will have responsibility for staffing, hiring, and skill development of the mechanical engineering team, while working with peers across ESA engineering to successfully execute programs. This position is also expected to function as a leader and top Subject Matter Expert in mechanical engineering.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The Manager of Mechanical Engineering will be both a contributing member to projects and a leader in the Mechanical Engineering organization.  Responsible for assessing current and upcoming program needs for Mechanical Engineering and acting to staff programs with qualified resources, including internal or external resources as appropriate, and filling in gaps as necessary.
    • Responsible for Mechanical Engineering workforce development, training and management to meet program and business needs. Includes training and development of existing workforce, hiring of additional resources, working with peers across the organization to leverage other resources within ESA, and working with appropriate 3rd party organizations when necessary to augment ESA staff.
    • Provide mentorship to Mechanical Engineers.
    • Assist Engineering Leadership with developing and implementing improved procedures and standards to ensure that output is high quality, accurate, on-time, and within budget; which includes establishing metrics (key performance indicators) for the Engineering projects and accountabilities for achieving results.
    • Supports the development of and adherence to company engineering design and analysis processes.
    • Develops specifications for mechanical engineering tools and equipment and assists in approvals, procurement, and implementation.
    • Supports engineering program reviews as a non-advocate reviewer to help drive improved engineering performance.
    • Provide support to Project Engineer Managers as necessary, to include, but not limited to development of program planning strategies, proposals, technical cost estimates, evaluation of alternatives, risk management, logistics management, cost-performance trade-offs, preparation of data, status updates and presentations at customer reviews. Works with project engineer(s) to develop solutions to customer requirements and facilitates resolutions where product line conflicts arise.
    • Maintain robust relationships with the business unit peers and engineering functional management as well as with appropriate counterparts in Elbit affiliate companies and key subcontractors and partners.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Master’s degree preferred
    • 10+ years mechanical engineering development and analysis experience and 5+ years of engineering leadership
    • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in Solidworks CAD tools, mentor others, and review work
    • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing IAW ASME Y14.5-2009/2018, mentor others, and review work
    • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in ANSYS and/or Nastran, mentor others, and review work
    • Demonstrated leadership of a team of 5 or more mechanical engineers or designers.
    • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
    • Clearly explains project assignments, expectations, priorities, and follows up to ensure they are met
    • Effective communication skills to work across functional and business unit teams to listen, understand, negotiate and explain as necessary to foster collaborative and positive outcomes.

    HIGHLY DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience in opto-mechanical design and analysis for lasers and targeting systems or design and analysis experience in ground combat vehicles.
    • Proven leadership in general management, including planning, financials, process development, and cost tracking is preferred
    • Experience with CREO/Windchill
    • Ability to travel as required to support business and department needs (~5%)
