    Job Description

    Exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to provide technical Contributions over diverse product development projects to include various defense systems, airborne systems, and commercial avionics systems. This opportunity requires initiative and creativity along with a foundation in statics, dynamics, materials, and thermodynamics.

    You will assist in the analysis and development of solutions to complex problems, and independently perform tasks critical to the success of the engineering department. You may also support substantial proposal and marketing initiatives, and perform research and development work to support long-term strategic objectives of ESA.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities include assisting in the mechanical system concept development, mechanical system trade-off analysis, detailed mechanical design, assembly/integration, test and evaluation of mechanical performance parameters at both the component and system level. Successful candidate is expected to perform in the following essential functions:

    • Skill in the use of solid modeling CAD tools specifically SolidWorks.
    • Thermal/ structural analysis: use of FEA, specifically ANSYS Workbench is a plus.
    • Drawing creation and release.
    • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing methods and conventions in accordance with ASME 14.5-2009.
    • Fundamental modeling and analytical understanding of static and dynamic mechanical properties (e.g. stress, torque, natural frequency, damping, thermal expansion, etc.)
    • Specification and design of electro-mechanical mechanisms and components
    • Hermetic and Environmental Seal design
    • Ability to generate required documentation including design reports, assembly procedures, bills-of-material, test procedures, etc.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Preferred third year student entering senior year in pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
    • Ability to work on site in Merrimack.
    • Requires hands-on mechanical design skills and broad capabilities in the area of mechanical engineering.
    • Ability to work part time during the semester preferred.
