    Job Description

    RECREATION PROGRAM AIDE

     Under the direct supervision of the Program Co-ordinator, the Program Aide shall assist in the delivery of quality services to the clients at ElderHouse including recreation activities and personal care.

    REQUIREMENTS

    1.       Minimum Associates Degree in Recreation and Health Aide Certificate.

    2.       Five years’ experience working with elderly adults.

    3.       Desire and stamina to work daily with elderly adults.

    4.       Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to elderly adults.

    5.       Ability to demonstrate patience, respect and relate fairly to all clients.

    6.       Willingness to “pitch-in” whenever necessary.

    7.       Ability to get along well with others and work in a team approach.

    KEY RECREATION RESPONSIBILITIES

    1.       Be an effective member of the recreation team by demonstrating cooperation, positive energy and helpfulness to achieve daily activity goals.

    2.       Help plan creative and diverse recreation activities, contributing new ideas each month.

    3.       Assist in transition times throughout the day to ensure that clients are placed in appropriate activities.

    4.       Help in activity preparation, set-up and clean-up.

    5.       Prep activities ahead of time to ensure they begin on time and are carried out as planned.

    6.       Lead and assist in activities, encouraging clients to try new experiences.

    7.       Assist in program assessment and evaluation.

    8.       Supervise clients at all times, paying particular attention to clients who wander, redirecting as necessary.

    9.       Participate in the discussion of the clients’ physical, mental and social progress in program as requested.

    10.    Attend staff meeting as required.

     

    KEY HEALTH RESPONSIBILITIES

    1.       Assist clients on and off vans (and help with outer clothing).

    2.       Assist clients with ambulating.

    3.       Provide toileting assistance as requested.

    4.       Play a substitute role if needed to shower, shave and groom clients, in co-ordination with program activities schedule.

    5.       Assist clients during mealtimes by helping to serve food.

    6.       Use approved standards and procedures for communicable diseases and infection control.
