    Position Overview

     

    A well-established, privately held engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Manager to lead and mentor a growing electrical engineering team. This individual will provide both technical leadership and people management, overseeing complex electrical design projects across commercial, institutional, and public-sector facilities.

     

    The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, proven leadership experience, and the ability to guide teams through sophisticated, multi-discipline design challenges while maintaining quality, code compliance, and client satisfaction.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    Manage and balance workloads across the Electrical Design team, ensuring efficient project execution

     

    Lead and coordinate electrical engineering design efforts including:

     

    Lighting systems

     

    Power distribution

     

    Information technology (voice & data)

     

    Access control

     

    Life safety, electronic security, and fire alarm systems

     

    Provide technical direction on complex or unconventional projects with competing design criteria

     

    Prepare and contribute to project proposals, including scopes, budgets, schedules, and staffing plans

     

    Oversee site investigations and inspections to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards

     

    Review contract documents and reports for accuracy, quality, and code compliance

     

    Participate in and present during project and client meetings

     

    Communicate directly with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors regarding project scope, cost, staffing, and scheduling

     

    Assist with project status reporting, engineering estimates, and documentation

     

    Support business development and marketing efforts by identifying new clients and project opportunities

     

    Recommend staffing needs and assist with hiring, including job descriptions, resume reviews, interviews, and candidate selection

     

    Occasional nights or weekends may be required to support project deadlines.

     

    Required Qualifications

     

    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering

     

    10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience

     

    Minimum of 5 years in a technical leadership or team lead role

     

    Experience leading complex, multi-discipline engineering projects

     

    Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit sufficient to manage and direct staff

     

    Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC)

     

    Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

     

    Experience with SKM and/or ETAP systems analysis is a plus

     

    Familiarity with MS Project, PowerPoint, and SharePoint preferred

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

     

    Proven ability to lead, mentor, and supervise engineers, designers, and technical staff

     

    Advanced technical knowledge of electrical engineering design and applicable codes and standards

     

    Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects

     

    Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and organizational levels

     

    Strong communication skills with both internal teams and external clients

     

    Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive client information

     

    Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

     

    Licensure Requirements

     

    Professional Engineer (PE) license required

     

    Ability to obtain Florida PE licensure within six (6) months

     

    Ability and willingness to pursue multi-state licensure preferred

     

    Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record

     

    Supervisory Responsibility

     

    This position includes direct supervisory responsibility for the Electrical Design team.
