    Job Description

    Timmons Group is currently seeking an Electrical Design Engineer II to join our Electrical Design Group’s Renewable Energy team in our Charlotte, NC office location. Strong candidates located in other geographic locations will be considered to work remotely. This group focuses on power generation and renewable energy projects throughout the country including solar farms and battery storage projects. Since this is an immediate need, signing bonuses are offered.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

    • Supports Project Managers or other staff on design of power generation and renewable energy projects
    • Provides input to senior engineering staff on design issues based on the results of calculations or engineering solutions
    • Participates in the creation of engineering services proposals, including the calculation/estimation of time schedules and costs of the proposed work as well as budget development
    • Performs electrical engineering design of solar PV/BESS power systems ranging from 1-500+ MW interconnected at medium voltage levels
    • Performs design of complete construction drawings including medium and low voltage AC, DC, grounding, wiring diagrams, electrical site plans and equipment layouts
    • Prepares supporting calculations of the PV field DC and AC collection electrical infrastructure design including equipment, conductor, conduit, OCPD sizing and voltage drop/power loss
    • Assembles design drawings and documents and provide/coordinate delivery to clients
    • Performs QA/QC processes through design and construction phases including medium voltage collection system design projects
    • Responsible for Technical Engineering Input and evaluation associated with electrical design
    • Performs collection design including single line diagrams, collection system layouts, communication diagrams, power cable sizing and cable schedules, wiring diagrams following applicable industry standard codes
    • Demonstrates conformance with State, NEC and NESC codes to documents

    Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited program
    • Knowledge of industry standards and codes
    • Two (2) or more of electrical engineering experience
    • Detailed design engineering experience and/or owners’ engineering experience in generating facilities and/or substations
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and accountable for assigned responsibilities
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future

    Preferred skills of a successful candidate include:

    • * Engineer in Training Certification / Professional Engineer registration strongly preferred
      
      • Experience in PV collection design
      • Engineering power systems modeling experience
      • Understanding and experience in project management and client interfacing
      • ETAP or SKM software experience
      • Proficiency with AutoCAD
      • Knowledge and implementation of QA/QC processes
