Job Description
The Electrical Power System Application Engineer delivers best-in-class technical expertise and customer service to the electrical infrastructure industry by listening carefully, applying sound engineering judgments, and responding effectively. The Application Engineering Department provides technical leadership across sales, estimating, and project execution. This role supports the development and enforcement of engineering standards, delivers project-level technical guidance, and contributes to research and development initiatives. The primary objective is to apply deep technical expertise to inform estimating, design, and manufacturing decisions ensuring accurate execution, efficient production, and an exceptional customer experience. Consistent and accurate representation of Mission Critical Group’s brand, mission, values, and strategic objectives is essential to success in this role.

Accountabilities:
**Technical Leadership & Project Support **
Serve as a technical advisor to internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate specifications and error-free designs.
Maintain current industry standards files on server, ANSI, IEEE, ABS, USCG, DNV, NEMA, IEC, etc.
Collaborate with account managers and internal stakeholders to define the technical scope offered within the current type of tested product offering.
Participate as a subject matter expert in RFQ reviews and preliminary and secondary specification reviews to identify technical risks, material constraints, and potential schedule impacts.
Develop, document, and present detailed value-engineered solutions based on project drawings, technical specifications, and customer requirements, balancing performance, cost, schedule, and manufacturability.
Review project quotation packages to ensure technical accuracy, clarity, and timely delivery to customers.
Develop and review preliminary datasheets during the RFQ stage; finalize project datasheets prior to design kickoff.
Review sales quotation letters to ensure technical accuracy including ratings and tested product offering.
Provide first line of communication with United Laboratories concerning current and future product offerings and testing requirements.
Provide local support for any R&D products that require type testing of new equipment.
Participate in the design review process for submittal drawings to customers to ensure industry and design standards are met, and any UL label can be applied.
Complete any special projects assigned by supervisor
This is focused on deep power systems knowledge: not a design engineering or automation role. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of technical expertise and customer engagement, supporting sales, estimating, and project execution with deep power systems knowledge.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as a technical liaison between customers and internal teams—including engineering, estimating, and operations—to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent information flow.
Engage operations and manufacturing teams to evaluate design impacts on manufacturability, serviceability, and field support.

Qualifications
**Education & Certifications **
High School Diploma or GED, Required.
Must reside in or near Belle Chasse, LA, Bay St. Louis, MS, Westchester, PA, Stone Mountain, GA or Brookston, IN. Required.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field, Preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) License, Preferred.
Required Experience
5+ years of electrical power systems application experience (up to 38 kV) in Marine, Heavy Industrial, or Oil & Gas environments, including:
Switchgear
Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
Generators and Motors
Power Factor Correction
Circuit Breakers, Fuses, and Reclosers
Transformers
Protective Relays and Protection Schemes
UPS and Battery Systems
Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
Automation systems (SCADA, DCS, HMI, IEDs)
Working knowledge of applicable standards, including NEC, NFPA 70E, NEMA, IEEE, IEC, UL/CSA, ABS, ANSI C37.1and ANSI C37.2
**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: **
Technical Expertise: Strong practical knowledge of electrical power systems engineering, design tools, and production processes.
Analytical Skills: Ability to independently identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues while adhering to established procedures and ethical standards.
Manufacturing Insight: Understanding of materials, production methods, quality control, and cost considerations.
Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with project management, CRM (Salesforce), and ERP/accounting systems
Communication Skills: Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interpret technical and regulatory documents and present complex information to customers and senior leadership.
Mathematical Skills: Advanced mathematical aptitude, including statistical and algebraic problem-solving.
