    Today we are now hiring an Electrical Project Engineer – High Voltage Substations (Kansas City, KS).

    A leading engineering firm is seeking an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to support and lead high-voltage substation projects for utility and EPC clients.

    Location

    Overland Park, KS (Kansas City area)

    Must be local or willing to relocate

    Full-time in office for first 90 days; hybrid schedule (3 days/week in office) and 9/80 schedule may be available afterward



    Compensation

    $130,000–$160,000 base salary 

    Final offer depends on experience and PE licensure



    What You’ll Do

    Serve as a technical specialist and/or project lead on HV substation projects (69kV–765kV)

    Support detailed engineering and EPC substation work

    Develop Protection & Controls deliverables:

    Protective relays, panel layouts, one-line/three-line diagrams

    AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel design

    Develop Physical Design deliverables:

    Yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection

    Control buildings and auxiliary AC/DC systems

    Perform and/or oversee QA/QC reviews of design packages

    Prepare equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOMs)

    Coordinate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams

    Manage design budgets and schedules

    Mentor junior engineers and support team development

    Participate in proposals, client presentations, and business development efforts

    Occasional travel for design reviews, site visits, and field verification



    Key Responsibilities

    Apply and guide use of engineering standards, codes, and internal design guidelines

    Independently execute advanced engineering analysis and calculations

    Lead production teams and coordinate multi-discipline activities

    Act as responsible charge on assigned projects

    Support client relationship management and understand client drivers

    Foster knowledge sharing, mentoring, and technical leadership

    Assist with performance management, resource planning, and team development

    Handle limited administrative responsibilities (timesheets, expenses, policy compliance)



    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)

    Minimum 5 years of substation design experience (69kV+)

    Experience in Protection & Controls and/or Physical Substation Design

    Ability to work onsite in Overland Park, KS (at least initially)

    Ability to pass standard pre-employment screening requirements



    Preferred Qualifications

    Professional Engineer (PE) license (strongly preferred)

    Project lead or technical specialist experience on utility substation projects

    QA/QC review experience

    Strong client-facing and coordination skills

    Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office
