Position Overview
The Electrician Lab Instructor is responsible for supporting student learning in a hands-on lab environment by demonstrating key concepts, guiding students through lab assignments, and ensuring safe and effective execution of electrical tasks. This role supports both in-person and online students and plays a critical role in reinforcing practical skills aligned with program objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead lab kickoff sessions by demonstrating key steps required to complete assigned tasks
- Reinforce safety protocols and proper use of tools and equipment
- Provide guidance on time management and task execution
- Assist students in completing lab assignments effectively
- Provide support to both in-person and online students using video-conferencing technologies
- Check in with students regularly to monitor progress and identify areas needing support
- Maintain awareness of individual student performance and provide timely assistance
- Grade lab assignments in accordance with faculty guidelines
- Provide clear and constructive feedback to support student improvement
- Report student performance as directed by faculty
- Collaborate with Lab Technicians to identify common student challenges and improve lab support
- Provide guidance to Lab Technicians and assistants on how to best support students
- Support training of lab staff, assistants, and work-study students
- Maintain communication with the Lab Coordinator regarding lab operations
- Ensure continuity of lab activities when stepping away from assigned duties
- Report any issues impacting lab functionality or student experience
Qualifications
Candidates must meet at least one of the following:
- Completion of an Electrician Trainee Approved School
- Active participation in an apprenticeship program
- Licensed Electrician
Preferred:
- Prior teaching or instructional experience
- Strong communication and student support skills
Schedule
- Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Friday: Hours negotiable
