Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Electro-Mechanical Technician to support manufacturing operations in a fast-paced production environment. This role is responsible for performing repairs, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and adjustments to ensure all production equipment operates safely, reliably, and at peak efficiency. The technician will communicate equipment issues and maintenance needs to maintenance leadership and production supervisors in a timely manner..
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and services on production equipment; document PM activities daily
- Inspect machines and components, remove and reinstall parts as needed
- Lubricate moving parts to ensure proper operation
- Identify, diagnose, and repair equipment breakdowns efficiently
- Record and report damaged, worn, or broken components
- Install replacement parts and identify parts requiring procurement
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
- Prepare reports documenting maintenance and repair work
Electrical, Mechanical & Controls Work
- Install, troubleshoot, service, and repair production-related equipment
- Maintain motors, conveyor systems, transfer systems, and packaging equipment
- Perform welding, plumbing, and electrical work as required
- Troubleshoot and modify PLC programs; work with VFDs, HMIs, servo drives, and automation systems
- Service and repair pneumatic control systems and process control instrumentation
- Troubleshoot 3-phase (480V) circuits, motor starters, and control systems
- Perform calibration of microprocessor-based control equipment
- Read and troubleshoot relay logic
- Install panel boxes, motors, lighting circuits, and power distribution systems
- Use diagnostic tools including multimeters, meggers, amprobes, data recorders, and terminals
Safety, Organization & Compliance
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all safety programs
- Maintain clean, organized electrical rooms, PLC rooms, maintenance shops, tools, and parts
- Comply with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and company safety standards
- Maintain safe, clean, and well-organized work areas at all times
Collaboration & Support
- Coordinate maintenance schedules with managers and production teams
- Communicate effectively with technicians, production personnel, engineering, and leadership
- Support production goals by assisting with training, coaching, and filling in for machine operators as needed
- Coordinate with external equipment and service vendors
- Assist other maintenance technicians as priorities dictate
- Identify opportunities for process and maintenance improvements and drive solutions
- Support special projects and emergency maintenance work, including call-ins when required
Essential Skills & Competencies
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Broad mechanical knowledge in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of power distribution and industrial wiring practices
- Ability to diagnose complex control system issues on high-speed production lines
- Critical thinking and problem-solving under pressure
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred
- Industrial maintenance apprenticeship completion is a plus
- Familiarity with PLC systems (Allen-Bradley), RSLinx, VFDs, and automation equipment
- Knowledge of parametric and industrial control systems
- Familiarity with OSHA and NFPA safety standards
- Ability to read diagrams, schematics, manuals, and engineering specifications
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy equipment
- Basic computer and report-writing skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and occasionally stressful environment
