Elementary Extended Care Teacher - Part Time
Job Description
The individual will assist with the development and implementation of elementary school quality programs that enrich the students intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. Teacher will maintain a safe and educational learning environment for children by successfully implementing the K8 curriculum and daily program activities.
Teacher will be a team player, a great communicator and will embody the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile and the values and mission of La Scuola.
Extended Care Teacher M-F 2:30 - 6:00 pm, except Wednesdays 1:30-6:00p. Extended Care Teachers are energetic and engaged individuals who are interested in facilitating a safe, fun, and collaborative environment with both children and co-instructors.
The Extended Day Teacher will assist the Director of Auxiliary Programs with the implementation of a quality program that enriches the students intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. The Extended Day Teacher will maintain a safe and educational learning environment for children by successfully implementing the Extended Care curriculum and daily program activities. The extended day teacher will be a team player, a great communicator and will embody the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile and the values and mission of La Scuola.
Daily Expectations
Maintaining a high sense of professionalism at all times
Teaching the programs that are created by the Director of Auxiliary Programs
Leading children in table activities
Supervising snack and outdoor play
Assisting children with day to day needs
Maintaining a clean environment
Leading group activities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include but are not limited to
Implements the program curriculum as planned by the Director of Auxiliary Programs to ensure a quality experience for all participants.
Works with the Director of Auxiliary Programs to implement engaging, developmentally appropriate educational enrichment curriculum and programming which expands and supports student learning experiences beyond the classroom.
Develops and maintains professional working relationships through effective and timely communication with the Director of Auxiliary Programs, the Directors of Elementary and Middle Schools, other program personnel, and other staff members, such as the Head of School, teachers, and food service personnel.
Works cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.
Assists the Director of Auxiliary Programs in addressing the ongoing needs of the students and parents.
Implements program procedures effectively to ensure the safe being of all participants.
Observes, monitors, and participates in children’s play activities.
Promotes a safe and healthy environment based on safety standards set within the program.
Efficiently and consistently redirects inappropriate student behaviors and implements the program discipline system to effectively monitor and guide proper student behavior. Communicates with Director of Auxiliary Programs and teachers on discipline issues occurring in the extended care program.
Supports the emotional and social development of children.
Reports any concerns and questions regarding the program (students, parents, equipment needs, supplies, other staff, volunteers, etc.) to the Director of Auxiliary Programs and the Office Manager.
Maintains accurate and organized records such as attendance records, timesheets, incident reports, and all other paperwork as instructed by the Director of Auxiliary Programs to ensure program compliance and quality operations.
Helps prepare snacks for the children when needed and clean-up the snack area.
Assists in the cleaning and straightening of the room and equipment before, during, and after the program when needed. This may include sweeping, washing tables, chairs, and locking the building at the end of the day.
Continues professional development by attending staff meetings and professional development days.
Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
Spends quality time with students to foster their intellectual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development through the duties outlined above.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills
Native-like fluency in English required
Italian language proficiency preferred
Enthusiastic, child-oriented, and creative individuals with a desire to work in a bilingual environment
Problem-solving, creativity, multitasking skills
Excellent attendance and punctuality records
Experience with IB a plus
Qualifications Required
Prior to beginning work and as a condition of employment in order to comply with the law, all employees must provide documentation to prove eligibility to work in United States. In addition, the final candidate will need to pass Criminal Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance, a physical exam, and provide recent copy of a negative TB test and other immunization records.
Estimated annual salary range for this part time position: $22 - $26 per hour depending on credentials, qualifications and experience.
