    ABOUT THE ROLE Academic Advisor, South Baltimore Adult High School

    JOB CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Non-Exempt

    About the South Baltimore Adult High School (SBAHS): The SBAHS, jointly authorized by the Maryland Department of Labor and the Maryland State Department of Education, gives adults 21 and over a fresh opportunity to finish high school in a community school framework. Our students have many responsibilities – from holding down a job to being a parent. Time is precious, so we have developed a flexible approach to meet our students where they are.

    POSITION SUMMARY: As a School Counselor, in alignment with the American School Counseling Association framework, you will facilitate the academic and social-emotional transition of students into the program and ensure that students remain on track to, and through, completion. You will report to the Manager of the Adult High School.

    NOTE: This is a 12-month, fully onsite role.

    Responsibilities:

    Program Oversight—SBAHS School Counseling Program

    Uses data to develop comprehensive programs that meet the needs of students; establishes the school counseling program and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program; develops and maintains a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program.

    Facilitate the philosophy that all students regardless of ability and age can achieve in academically and thrive in the workplace.

    Effectively implements a data-driven, grade-level appropriate college and career readiness program for all students.

    Program oversight and Student Support-Academic Planning

    Act as a liaison between Elev8 Baltimore and our academic partner, Baltimore City Community College, by coordinating the enrollment of students into the APEX online high school credit program

    Support scheduling, oversight, and evaluation of intake and progress assessments

    Works with other local education agencies to obtain student transcripts.

    Conducts credit checks of incoming students in alignment with the graduation requirements of the South Baltimore Adult High School.

    Develop and communicate Individual Learning Plans (ILP) with students highlighting their pathway towards graduation.

    Review and monitor progress toward short-term and long-term outcomes identified by industry best practices for adult learners

    Updates student transcripts upon successful completion of classes and certifies graduation.

    When capacity allows, build processes and tools to execute the functions above.

    When capacity allows, conduct career planning conversations with students.

    Program oversight and Student Support-Guidance Curriculum/Student Advising

    Provides individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students. Connects students to resources obtained by Community School Coordinator.

    Consults with students, SBAHS staff, teachers, and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students.

    Coordinates all counseling services for students and assists with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school.

    Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.

    Implements classroom guidance lessons (around career readiness) as required by the needs of the school

    Conducts meetings at least quarterly with each student to discuss progress and provide college and career advising, including implementing the Success Coaching model as time allows.

    Other Responsibilities

    Upon request and as needed, serve as school testing coordinator, including MCAP and Intake Assessment.

    Serve as the service learning coordinator for South Baltimore Adult High School

    Communication and Documentation

    Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner

    Maintain all required documentation

    Review and provide support to maintain accurate and timely documentation in Apricot 360

    Prepare reports for program partners and funding sources

    Agency/Team Cohesion

    Responsible for attending mandatory departmental meetings

    Attend agency meetings and events

    Participate in cross department/program workgroups

    Complete required training on time

    Maintain compliance with agency policies and procedures

    Prepare for and attend regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor

    Uphold organization values related to race, equity, and liberation of people and communities of color

    The School Counselor may complete other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelors’ degree in education, or similar credentials, required

    Masters in School Counseling or similar credential is a plus

    Experience working with students who have not been successful in a traditional school setting highly preferred.

    Must have a commitment to working with adults from a strength base perspective

    Authorization for background check for criminal and child protective findings

    COMPENSATION: $25/hour
