    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY: Elevation Ability Services is Facility School for students with developmental disabilities ages 5-16. We serve students from school districts in the Denver Metro and Front Range.

    The Special Education Paraprofessional should be committed to supporting a program that utilizes evidence-based practices for students with developmental disabilities that focuses on academic, social-communication and functional skills that will support students in meeting their full potential. The Special Education Paraprofessional collaborates with the teachers, administration, students, and parents to build a program that leads to student success across the school, community and home setting. The Special Education Paraprofessional should be experienced in supporting with helping to facilitate core content areas such as reading, writing and math to diverse learner profiles, teaching social skills, implementing behavior supports necessary to achieve success within school and social life, as well as possess strong adult leadership skills. The Special Education Paraprofessional may also need to help manage the personal care needs of students feeding, changing, etc. and to support other team members to provide this care with dignity and respect of students that may lack a voice to communicate wants and needs.

    The Special Education Paraprofessional will collect data on educational and behavior management interventions. This job description describes essential job functions, but does not provide an exhaustive list of duties that may be assigned.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    • Provide direct student intervention in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements.

    • Follow the prescribed academic, behavioral skill acquisition, and behavior reduction protocols.

    • Follow and record data protocols.

    • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable student behavior.

    • Assist with parent and caregiver training in line with student’s individualized treatment and behavior reduction protocols.

    • Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress as instructed by the Special Education Teacher and/or Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

    • Utilize safe & appropriate handing procedures when working with students.

    • Maintain student confidentiality.

    • Assist Special Education Teacher and Board Certified Behavior Analyst with skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments.

    • Assist Special Education Teacher in preparing student materials as instructed.

    • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work and therapy environment.

    • Collaborate with intervention team including student, parents and caregivers, outside professionals, Behavior Analysts, Behavior Specialists, and co-workers.

    • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required trainings.

    • Document direct and in-direct time within 24 hours and accurately in time-keeping system

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    • Ability to accept constructive feedback and develop knowledge and skill sets accordingly.

    • Effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with students, co-workers, supervisors, and community members

    • Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and abide by code of ethics as indicated by Colorado Department of Education, Colorado Department of Human Services, and the Behavior Analyst Certification Board

    • Commitment to maintain student confidentiality and adhere to FERPA laws

    • Commitment to ongoing training and development as it relates to professional development, ethics, and technology, and training in order to perform job responsibilities to required standard.

    • Ability to interpret and implement educational protocols.

    • Maintain a professional appearance with regard to clothing, grooming, hair, and make-up.

    BASIC & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

    • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time.

    • Must be able to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods of time.

    • Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection.

    • Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication.

    • Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means.

    • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License & insurance in good standing

    • COVID VACCINATION REQUIRED

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Required: Experience working with children with developmental disabilities and/or behavior disorders

    • Preferred: 1-3 years experience working with children ages 0-21 providing in a classroom or 1:1 setting; experience implementing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis; Educational, Speech, or Special Education.

    EDUCATION:

    • Required: High School Diploma

    • Preferred: completed 60 hours of college coursework from an accredited university. Enrollment in college coursework for at least 6 hours per semester from an accredited university and/or at least 6 months of experience delivering Applied Behavior Analysis services may be substituted for 60 hours of completed college coursework. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, Speech and Hearing Services, or related field.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

    • Employment Supervisor: Special Education Teacher

    RELATED TRAINING:

    • Responsible for completing and maintaining all required certifications and trainings once employed including, but not limited to: CPR, Fingerprinting & Background Checks, RBT trainings and other company in-services and trainings as directed by employment supervisor.

    • Safety Care Training within first 30 days of employment

    • Registered Behavior Technician Training within first 90 days of employment

    Company Description

    Elevation’s facility school is an approved Colorado Department of Education facility School and a licensed Colorado Department of Human Services Day Treatment Program. Elevation serves as an out-of-district placement for students who’s moderate to severe problem behavior has negatively affected their ability to learn in a lesser restrictive environment. Elevation has several broad goals for our students:

    1. To dramatically reduce the frequency and severity of problem behavior.
    2. To develop extensive social, leisure, and academic skill repertoires necessary for transitioning back to a less restrictive environment (LRE).
