Job Description

GENERAL / DEFINITION:

Will sort through rows of pallets and separate pallets needing minor repairs or none and bad pallets needing major repairs. Will do the minor repairs needed. Works in teams of two, alternating between sorting and repairing. Must treat people with respect, work ethically, with integrity, accept responsibility for own actions and uphold organization vision, values and objectives. Must work well with coworkers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Sort through rows of pallets
2. Move “good” and/or other named pallets to designated area
3. Restack “bad” pallets in original row
4. Count sorted pallets, good, bad and other named and record on sorting sheet
5. Repair “good” pallets accordingly
6. Clean and organize work area

REQUIREMENTS:

Must be on time each day as scheduled and clock in and out for each shift and rest period. Meet productivity standards, complete work in a timely manner and work as quickly and safely as possible. Must follow all safety guidelines at all times.

1. SAFETY:

2. Must wear steel toed shoes, safety glasses and gloves

3. Must wear back support properly and hard hat when necessary

4. Attend all safety training (and the once a month meetings)

5. Must address safety issues immediately to supervisor

6. Must report accidents and injuries within 24 hours to management

7. Must follow all safety requirements and training at all times

8. LANGUAGE SKILLS---Must have sufficient communication skills to:

9. Comprehend general instructions

10. Must be able to read/write in a legible and understanding manner.

11. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS---Must have the ability to:

    1. Count pallets; add and subtract two-digit and three-digit numbers
    2. Multiply and divide

12. PHYSICAL DEMANDS---Must be able to perform the following physical requirements:

13. Walking and standing, squatting, stooping and bending throughout shift

14. Lifting and moving pallets (up to 75 pounds) continuously through shift

15. Hammering, removing loose boards, sweeping and shoveling throughout shift

16. WORK ENVIRONMENT

    1. Required to wear uniform properly
    2. Working around loud noises (hammering, moving of pallets, etc.)
    3. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions
    4. May be asked to work different shifts
    5. Up to 4 hours overtime a day may be required
    6. May be asked to work 6-7 days a week
    7. Dusty surroundings from tile, cement, sand, etc.

Decision Making

Must be able to make decisions of “good” pallet vs. “bad” pallets and what repairs to make

Teamwork

Must work harmoniously with all personnel, including all other departments, and follow all company rules, regulations and procedures.
