    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Flight Operations Safety Officer shall be accountable for day to day administration of the Embraer Executive Aircraft flight department safety management system (SMS). In that role he/she has direct access to and support of the Vice President of Flight Operations in safety matters.

    RESPONSIBILITIES/ DUTIES: 

    • Monitor and advise the VP Flight Ops on the Global Flight Operations safety activities to effectively manage the flight safety risks we are exposed to in our global Demonstration, Transportation and Customer Support operations;
    • Manage the Embraer Executive Aircraft Flight Operations hazard identification and tracking system;
    • Develop and maintain our Department safety awareness program;
    • Monitor industry flight safety concerns which may have an impact on our operations;
    • Maintain close liaison with other airplane manufacturer's flight operations and industry safety associations;
    • Take action on and distribute accident, incident, and other occurrence reports;
    • Analyze hazard reports and other identified safety concerns and make recommendations to the Flight Operations Manager, Chief Pilots, Standards Pilots, Maintenance Manager and Chief Cabin Attendant on appropriate mitigation actions pertaining to safety;
    • Monitor the response to and results of safety program initiatives;
    • Liaise with Embraer Air Safety Team and SMS Program;
    • Maintain IS-BAO and SMS implementation and continued compliance;
    • Oversee and provide administrative management of the Department Flight Operations Manual;
    • Investigate and report on incidents/accidents and make recommendations on mitigations to prevent reoccurrence and/or modifications to our unique safety management system;
    • Issue Safety Directives and Notices to the flight crew and to the Flight Safety Committee.
    • Send reports to regulatory authorities (FAA/NTSB/ANAC/etc.) whenever such reports are issued by the PIC or ground staff after an emergency is declared, mentioning the facts, deviations and measures involved;
    • The Flight Safety Officer shall be designated as a Technical representative to any accident or incident investigation involving any EEA operated aircraft;
    • Act as a liaison with the regulatory authority on all matters concerning flight operations, or liaising with any external agencies which may affect aircraft operations;
    • Manage the department Fatigue Management, FOQA, ASAP, IEP, ERP and Change Management programs;
    • Ability to travel up to 15% to attend conferences, site visits, etc.
    • Perform flight crew duties to supplement crewing needs and to stay close to the flight operation; preferred; (as appropriately licensed).

    ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    EDUCATION:

    • BA degree in Aviation related field.
    • Flight Safety Qualifications or demonstrated experience preferred.
    • Multi-engine Commercial pilot's license with valid instrument rating preferred.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Prefer 20 plus years' experience within the aviation industry; basic knowledge of product liability principles.
    • Proven expertise with airline and general aviation operational and safety environment
    • Extensive operational experience, normally achieved as a flight deck crew member or equivalent experience in aviation management.
    • Training and/or professional experience in the following:
      • Flight safety philosophy;
      • Human factors and the decision-making process;
      • Accident prevention;
      • Risk management;
      • Accident/incident management;
      • Safety management systems;
      • Emergency response planning; and 
      • Incident investigation.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Comprehension, understanding and execution of broad practices associated within the field assigned and related fields.
    • Applies these understandings in the completion of complex work assignments.
    • Familiar with airline and general aviation operational environment.
    • Attentive and with ability to work under pressure/stress during critical situations.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, authorities, industry in general and other employees of the organization.
    • Spanish, Portuguese and/or French are a plus.
    • Strong MS-Office products computer skills.
