Position Summary
The EMT-Basic delivers high-quality pre-hospital emergency medical care, transportation, and rescue services to the community. This role involves performing patient assessments, administering emergency medical treatment, maintaining accurate patient care records, and helping keep our station and equipment safe, clean, and ready for response.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Medical Services
Provide basic life support (BLS) care to patients in emergency situations
Perform primary patient assessments, obtain vital signs, and deliver stabilization and treatment within the EMT-Basic scope of practice
Safely and professionally transport patients to medical facilities
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals
Complete required documentation, including patient care reports, accurately and on time
Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance
Ensure ambulances are prepared, stocked, and equipped for response
Perform daily vehicle inspections and basic maintenance checks
Clean and sanitize ambulances and equipment after each call
Station Duties
Participate in daily and weekly cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms and common areas, and taking out trash/recyclables
Restock supplies and organize storage areas
Help maintain a safe, organized environment that's always ready for emergency response
Community Engagement
Provide basic first-aid education to community members as directed
Represent HREMS at community events, trainings, and public awareness activities
Qualifications
Valid New York State EMT-Basic certification
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
CPR certification (AHA BLS or equivalent)
Ability to lift and move up to 125 lbs, with additional weight assistance as needed, and work in varied physical environments
Skills and Abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to stay calm and think clearly under pressure
Flexibility and willingness to help with station upkeep and operational readiness
Solid knowledge of pre-hospital care practices and protocols
Work Environment
This role involves both indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays to help ensure 24/7 coverage. You'll work as part of a close-knit team where patient care and station upkeep go hand in hand.
